Toad was my second or third Spydie. Didn't hang onto it, I had poor taste back then.

C61 Pegasus
The older, smaller blade Spyder from that era I really liked was the SPUR model. I've said several times that Spyderco can easily claim to be the King of Small bladed folders.

:) There ya go JD. The C32 Spur.

Image
Yep that's it!! I sure wish I would have kept one of mine. I had two at one time. It is sure a stocky little folder and I'm surprised that it never gained any popularity.

I had one PE like the one in your pick>> the other one I had was a combo edge and that's the one I really liked. They are really a tough find now a days.

From Spydiewiki

C06 Tusk:

"The Tusk is both a state-of the art mariner’s tool and part of Spyderco’s history. The original design dates back to the early days of Spyderco’s beginning with Sal Glesser’s desire to produce a high performance mariner’s tool. The technology at the time was not available for the visionary concept. That’s all changed today, redesigned by Sal’s son Eric Glesser more than 25 years later has brought to light the original Tusk with new modern twists. Made from all highly rust resistant materials the Tusk features a blade made from LC 200 N and full titanium scales including a Reeve Integral Lock. The 300-series stainless steel marlinspike has round-to-square cross section to loosen knots efficiently with a high strength Ball Bearing Lock TM made with a ceramic ball bearing. The marlinspike includes one small sized shackle key in the marlinspike and another lager shackle key created when the marlinspike is closed. Both can effectively manage many different sized and types of shackles. Reversible Clip carry and lanyard hole give a variety of carry options. Thankfully, technology caught up with Spyderco’s early vision and the Tusk’s time is now."

I’d almost completely forgotten about my Pro-Venator lightweight. And I had gotten it by mistake (or through theft). Back around 1998/99, I had sent a Michael Walker LWT in to Spyderco due to excessive blade play in the open position. I got back the Pro-Venator. Contacting Spyderco, I was told that my package had contained an old Pro-Venator, so they sent me a new one. They said it was odd, because it didn’t match the description in my letter. My guess is that someone in the chain of delivery must have seen the ‘Spyderco’ street address, opened my package, and exchanged their old Pro-Venator for my my defective Michael Walker LWT.

It turned out that the Pro-Venator LWT was a much more solid design than the Walker LWT. I never really carried or used it much, but it wasn’t anything to complain about. I hadn’t carried or used the Walker LWT much, either.

Wasn't that TOAD model actually meant to be a "cigar knife"? I have heard that over the years but never really knew for sure. I would think it would be ideal for that job. I would love to test drive a Spyderedged version of it some day.

I also once had a super small Spyderco fixed blade and I'm speaking of the SPOT model. You never hear anyone even mention either one of those anymore?

Yep I still have my old original SPYDERENCH>> the original, Golden Made models have 440C blade steel on the knives. I think the Taiwan and China made units had AUS-8 if I'm not mistaken.

It's a real shame that more people didn't give the SPYDERENCH a fair trial because it's truly very unique in the multi-tool market.

I always thought that the SPOT model was the ultimate box opening blade. And it was a fixed blade at that!! I wish I would have kept at least one of mine. I even had the Micarta model with VG-10 blade steel and that I truly wish I had kept. The others I believe had AUS-6 which was a steel I never got to like.

Personally I think that the SPYDERENCH is one of the most brilliant designs of a multi-tool that I've ever seen. Most multi-tools are copies and modifications of the original Leatherman which first hit the scene in the 80s. Even my Victorinox Swiss Tool and Swiss Tool X that I dearly love are more or less copies of a Leatherman. But the Spyderench is a completely unique, one of kind tool. I would love it if that guy "Marty" who designed the SPYDERENCH would come back for a SPYDERENCH 2 mdoel. He's had plenty of time. The market is ready for something new.

I think there were 4 models with Tim Wegner; the C48 being the largest.
The C48 Wegner, C49 Wegner Jr, C74 Ocelot and the CX11 Tim Wegner Mouse.
