I am really happy to have gotten in on these before they disappear as well. Really interesting design.

Is there anywhere you can buy pre-fab scales for these like Halpern Ti for the mules?

Any advice from the more experienced here on the best way to make the tip less blunt? Just start working with a coarse stone?

If it were me I'd try taking the spine down a little with a sander, then bringing the edge up with an extra coarse or coarse stone to meet the spine. Haven't seen any scales available for these.

Normally, you just take the spine down to meet the edge. If yours has a slight hawkbill shape, you might bring the edge up a bit to straighten it. I'd probably use a wide stone so that it ended up straight, rather than risk putting a wavy edge on it.

Seems like that has happened to quite a few people with this knife. I'm beginning to think a junior man was on the grinding belt for this knife??? The grinds on mine are probably the worst I've seen on any of my Spyderco's. It's not horrible but just a bit rough. I'm not bothered by it. Nothing I can't fix. I'm just glad the points on mine turned out ok.

They were only making black when the K390 mule was released, but it's a nice sort of dull looking flat black, and I was very pleased with mine.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

I believe that was the Sheathpro sheath. Their contact info is listed somewhere in this thread. I talked to Christina and got four Swick sheaths from them, two for a friend. Quality was awesome but AFAIK it comes in any color as long as its black.

Thanks for the advice to those who replied on how they would manage putting a better tip on the blade. Started working on it over the weekend but did not have enough time. Want to make sure to do it right as it is my first effort to put a new tip on a knife.

My sheath from SheathPro arrived today. Man, the quality is outstanding. I asked them to make the sheath flat at the top instead of coming to a point as I thought it would be more comfortable for me this way. They made it just like I asked, no problems. Highly recommend SheathPro to anyone looking for a good quality sheath. Pics below...

Here's a suggestion, how about a leaf blade Swick 5 in black DLC; not that would be the bee's knees.

I have been away for a few days but just got back to this thread and realized the man himself had replied to my post. As many have said on this forum, it is hard to find better engagement from a company than Spyderco. Thanks for the welcome.

I started the project on a medium grit bench stone to bring the grind up both to achieve the sharper point I am looking for and to remove the slight downward hook on the blade. I have been working at it very slowly to make sure I do not do any damage. I would say about half the work is done, and when complete I will post a picture here.

I also need to place a sheath pro order, and am eagerly awaiting the scales from HT in January...

Looks like a firesteel rod, specifically an ExoTac nanoSTRIKER XL.
