On a side note a co worker of mine didn't beleive i RIT dyed these he thought they were factory

So, I wanted to bring this up to pose a question. I am thinking of buying a yellow Atlantic Salt to dye. I am wanting to get a neon green. Has anyone tried this or, do you think it would work using this formula I found on an unrelated forum?

I actually messed around with my camera a few weeks back and created some pics of possible dye colors. Thought it might give people a rough idea of what the dyes may look like on their frn handles.

I'm not an expert, but I've done some dying, and I'd bet that works well on white FRN. Not completely sure about results on yellow, but it's worth a try.

I'm not sure either but I noticed that they used yellow dye and green dye. I figured since the knife was yellow already that there might be a possibility of achieving the right shade.

Won't work - the yellow FRN doesn't "mix" with the blue dye. You'll get something blue, not green.

x2 i used a royal blue dye on my yellow atlantic and it came out dark blue

Are you you all just dropping the whole knife into the dye?
I realize some of the handles aren't removable and that's probably what has to happen. Has anyone noticed a negative impact on the metal parts, such as rust, corrosion, or patina changes?

I may have missed the answer to my question, and I apologize if someone's already posted it.

the only knife i have dye'd was the atlantic which has H1 steel. i have not seen any change in the steel what so ever, i do not know how the other steels will react though

I have done a vg-10 ladybug and it had no effects whatsoever. Just clean the knife when you are done and it is good as new

Inspired by the OD green Ladybug I did an olive drab this morning for my PE Aqua Salt. I had wanted to get a black PE and a yellow SE. But the place I ordered was all out of black. I needed a way to differentiate the knifes while in the sheath though and different colored lanyards just wasn't doing it.

Check out the results. I like this better than the black!


The close up shows a bit of color bleed through from the yellow. It spent about 5-7 min in the rit dye. I would take it out every few min and give it a hot water rinse to check dye penetration. I thought I over did it but just kept rinsing it off in very hot tap water and it lightened up a bit. I am very happy with the results so far.

Yes just keep in mind if you spend a lot of time in the water the dye will fade and it will need to be dyed again.

With RIT color remover you can strip about 95% of the dye and change colors if you like

I haven't dyed any knives, but I got a free pink ipod shell and dyed it black. After a couple weeks in my pocket daily, the corners are starting to rub off. Also, it comes off in large amounts when it comes in contact with soap water or alcohol, but it doesn't come off at all with water.

Has anyone tried dyeing the gray FRN? Wouldn't be as great as white (or maybe natural/undyed FRN ?) but at least it is neutral.

If you wanted a dark color it should theoretically work fine, lighter colors will probably end up being grayish or so.
