I personally hope Spyderco makes $$ on it so they can continue making lots of interesting models for me to pick and choose from.
It's not a long thread because people didn't like some aspect of the knife. It's a long thread because of those who were objecting to the expression of an opinion they didn't share. One of the nice things about this forum is the general civility. Everyone is welcome to give any polite on-topic comment.

Occasionally some of the forum members get over-enthusiastic when they read an opinion that does not conform to their notions of political correctness, particularly if it is interpreted as a criticism of Spyderco. We're virtually all here because we love the company, its people and its products. I think a little more tolerance is in order.

While I may not agree with the adage that "Any Attention is Good Attention", this may indeed be the case with the warrior.

I don't consider Spyderco to be a "one trick pony" and it's nice to see a company flex it's creative muscles. I'm sure this blade has knocked the media dead at the shows!

I consider the Warrior a Ronin concept mixed with ethnic undertones. Not for me, but thankfully not everyone is like me.

Unless, of course, you're a mall ninja! :D

I'm curious Sal, what is a "G" rated market?
sal wrote:Obvioulsy this is not something a customer will take to the mall shopping.

Will some "normal" knife people purchase one for interest or collection or historical value? probably. But our market for the model is military.

The market for the P'Kal is undercover law enforcement.

The market for the Meerkat is "G" rated.

The market for the Viele is collector.

The market for our Rescue models in first responders.

The market for our Salts is for corrosion resistance carry.

The Warrior model was posted for interest and discussion, not to "get you to buy one". It's a pretty expensive piece. It took a long time to develop with much adversity.

Conversation is certainly more emotional that we would have thought.

What is the ETA for this model? Will it be available via resellers or only directly from Spyderco?

And that is really one good-looking design. With the specs of this blade and the looks it is a keeper. :D

That knife is beautiful. I can see its uses as a camp knife, having a large serrated portion of a knife while also having a full plain edge is perfect for multiple uses. I also like the large belly on the thing. I can see it scaring some people, but it's not like I would carry that into the office strapped to my leg.

Lordy, quite a read!

First, a real question: is the swedge, forward of the serrations sharpened?
Second: how does the weight compare to the Hobbit?

Glad to see this coming back (and hopefully staying around awhile...)

I don't think you'll be seeing gangbangers wielding a spyderco warrior any time soon. They can get a gun for $250 easily. Plus I've known plenty of gangmembers when I was younger and none of them ever valued a quality knife the way we do. The best you'll see a gnagbanger carry is a s&w and that's best case scenario. They're more likely to have a liquor store $5 knife.

Let's not start in on this again.

A slightly tangential post

Despite having

1. ...had martial arts training directed at fatal outcomes in my younger years,
2. ...having come from a culture that had the machete as a daily fixture,
3. ...having actually inflicted a near - fatal wound in someone during an attempted gang mauling with his own balisong,

...I AM a pacifist, and advocate avoidance through situational awareness (run!), yelling out loud for the cops or a mob of enraged good citizens to come, and and fighting only when cornered with nowhere to go. If the latter happened, odds are it won't be with a Spyderco - but with my Wenger SAK. That's because that's the ONLY tool I really need when going to the Hospital for work, and the Swiss Cross makes it socially acceptable.

I could be making all this up, but that's the luxury my online anonymity affords me. And for the moment, I intend to bathe in that luxury.

I appreciate the fact that Spyderco hasn't taken the route of Tacticool Dork Ops advertising.

I do not envisage a need for the Warrior, but I have a LOT of Spydies and a lone Benchmade that want some new company. I think I might get a Warrior, if my paycheck permits. But it will only be because I do like Spydies, and their novelty never ceases to amaze me.

Oooh. Shiiiney.

GoBlue wrote:What an awesome knife design this looks like, and I appreciate hearing some of the history behind it. I have so much respect for the people at Spyderco, not least of all for their support of law enforcement, medical professionals, military and others who use tools like this to do their jobs (to protect the rest of us!!!).

I know all of us who read and post here must have diverse views... but am I really seeing grown men and women who are frightened or offended by the appearance of a knife?

Some people will never understand personal freedoms or the hard work that needs to be done to defend them... even the seemingly small freedom of deciding to carry a large knife ("oh my gosh, this is such a scary knife, I would never need something like this, so that means that nobody else should either"). Some might think I'm overstating this, but I am convinced that it's a pervasive problem...
I think this is my first post. I just ordered one, I can't wait to get it. I basically feel like this guy. When the day comes when we have to justify our legal purchases based on whether we need them or not (see large SUVs), then we have lost.

First I'll say == Hello Rob and WELCOME to the forum !!!

2nd is ---- I've lusted after one of these knifes from around 1975ish , when I first got the book by Mike Enchanis {SP?} ----- I tried to get one when Al Mar was making them as well as a custom or two --- I am very THANKFULL that Sal and Co. has stepped up and produced such a unusual knife design and I look forward to adding the Warrior to the 75+ Spydies that I already own.

Welcome to the forums! After handling one the other week, I'm also wanting a Warrior. Can't justify spending the $$$ right now, but maybe down the road I'll pick one up.
