Crap I feel bad.All this over me asking for a Spydie with a few of Striders features.
Lesson learned, from now on if I want the features in one companies knife I will buy that knife instead of asking another company to use some of the good points of the other knife on thiers.

JSmith,
I sure don't think what happened was your fault! Nothing wrong with asking questions. :)

Severedthumbs,
No prob! ;)

All in all, I'm glad to see that both Mr. Glesser and Mr. Strider took this thread in stride. They're both awesome craftsmen! I don't doubt the strength of either of their designs, they both build awesome knives!

I have a real problem with some of the posts over in the strider forum. I believe its a combination of misinformation, gullibility, and bad manners.

I've read the posts on Badlands and actually it isn't that bad ;) . Mick & Sal sorted things out. Some others did too.
The tone of the Badlands forum is about the same as on USN, which is just different then here. After all, this is sort of a family forum, while those are hard-core-military-special-ops guys.
Also I think it's outrageous to call Jimd with 810 posts and owner of both the brands a troll. Troll's are first time posters that don't own the models in question and then talk crap about them.
Now, please get together and make that SnG with a round hole and an integral compression lock please! Just because it's cool

Yeah, someday, I'll be a proud owner of a Striderco! :D Checked out Badlands, Mick spoke highly of Poppa Spyder and all that he has contributed to the knife community.. If you are not Mr Strider of Poppa Spyder, I guess you have no business calling names and degrading both parties... Let's move on and enjoy our :spyderco: innovation and Strider toughness.. :D

Not to belabor the point but, I read the latest over there and found this forum referred to as being more "flammable."

-And as to the "hard core" status over there, other than those with the indisputable backgrounds, there seems to be as representative a sample of armchair commandos and wannabes as anywhere else on the net.

That's not a shot, just an observation that anytime you get a real pro or two someplace you'll get a thousand sycophants and toadies crowded around hoping the magic will rub off. The high-speed guys using Strider blades are out there doing just that, not posting nineteen times a day on a forum. "Quiet professionals", you know? Or maybe it's just that a lot of guys are on leave at the same time...

I wouldn't sell the users here short either. They just might be more likely to actually use a knife daily; to open mail and cut up boxes at their job, than a guy who sits in his cubicle dreaming of how he can rip the door off a minivan 'just in case' one flips over and explodes in front of him on his commute home tonight.

And I'd still like to see a standardized and transparent testing method. It would enlighten the genuinely curious and silence the blowhards.

Hi J Smith. No prob on the question. I guess the real answer would be that Spyderco did not have an interest in "giving Strider a run for their money".

Perhaps the discussion got a tiny bit beyond the "civil" line. Lesson learned, no harm done.

Mick and Duane are good people and they are good for the industry. They created and maintain their own niche. Always worthy of respect. They extend their best effort to make a good knife. They make them in the US which is always a plus.

Let's keep our end proper. I don't think Jim was trying to cause any trouble. He was defending what he perceived to be an attack on something he held dear. Pretty natural.

Make it a good day!

I should have worded that differant in the start.
If the SNG was a tank the knife I was looking for would have been a Hummer and about 1/2 the price as to let more folks be able to get one.I know Buck is makeing a very good colab but its in the 100.00 to 125.00 range.I was thinking if someone could take it up to the 200.00 range it would be closer to the real Strider.
Again I am sorry for starting all this.

I don't think you should worry Jeff. You can't have over 4400 posts and not have this happen sometime or the other. :p :) :D

In my book Long Rifle is a piece of shitte. screw you a-hole.

HEY NOW! Long Rifle is a respected member on the Badlands forums. And as others have pointed out, he does have 810 posts here. Heck, he has more posts then you. He is not a fly by night troll.

Once again... Strider makes different kind of knives then Spyderco. Spyderco makes different knives then Strider.

Who is better is depends on what you will need it for and what you want to pay.

I myself and many others, chose Strider over everything else everyday. Either because of what Strider's can do - or because they think they are the coolest knives around. It's a free country and we have the right to. If you prefer Spyderco and think everything else is junk or whatever. You have the right to an opinion.

This is the internet, son. Calling someone names they don't deserve is something we've raised to high art. :) :)

Seriously, I do think Jim's posts here were intelligent, fair, and eye-opening. On the other hand, his posts there seemed deliberately meant to incite. I wondered about the difference in tone, too, but at this point, I think everything is best left alone.

BTW, another good thing about this thread is that it pointed me to the Badlands forum. I'm just reading the thread you started about "knife fighting", maybe two or three pages in. Great thread so far, and Jim's response there was awesome. I have some advice on your thread as well, but want to finish it to see if someone else has said it first.

I don't have the most posts but I know the signs of a person trying to start crap when I see it.

I have seen many people with many posts turn to the darkside. So don't use his post count as a barometer.

Come on you think his posts like "I carry a Spyderco as a money clip" is respectful? I think we all know he meant that as a knock to Spyderco. So why dismiss this? Because of his post count?!

I think Jim just wants to defend Strider Knives from any unjustified bashing. As I would. Also to show light on facts that may not be widely known on Striders, to non-hardcore fans. ie explaining the Hinderer. A lot of Strider faithful didn't know what the heck it was when it came out. Now they understand and sees it is a good thing.

I mentioned his post count, to show he just didn't show up here to cause trouble.

um people can you the clips as money clips - especially if it's a smaller folder. Read the page for the Cricket "The pocket clip carries right-handed tip-down but also attaches to a tie or makes a fashionable money clip."

I think both threads started going off the rails, but thankfully cooler heads prevailed.
I'm glad all is well between both companies.
Glad to see it was a small miscommunication/misunderstanding and not a major leauge slam.

Now go play with knives or something!
