Another nest this morning . Cicada Killer female is getting bigger . I had two buzzing around , but one is missing so not sure if this one dug both nests .

The Ice Cream Truck Critter. This is the first neighborhood I've lived in since I was six, that had an ice-cream truck drive by on a regular basis. I have so far resisted the urge to beg my girlfriend for money and then chase him down the street.

So I take it they eat Cicadas?

Yes and no . The female Cicada Killers dig these burrows in soft dirt as deep as 18 inches . Once the Cicadas start to come out they hunt them and paralyze them with their stinger and pit them inside the hole with her eggs . Over winter the young eat the Cicadas after hatching and in late Spring the process starts again . They really don’t bother you but look scary , I definitely would not want to be stung . Their barb is huge !
