Such a great album
Re: What are you listening to?
That's incredible that you would put that vintage Steve Winwood video up there  Because just last night a good friend of mine and I sat down and listened to the entire BLIND FAITH album  Oh yeah "Can't Find My Way Home" is the headliner that almost everyone remembers but there were other super-songs on that LP as well. Ginger Baker's drum solo on the song "Do What You Like" and Winwood's vocals on the song "Colour Of The Lord" is one that really resonates with me. Really there isn't a bad or boring tune on the entire album. I've often wondered how well that group would have done in the long haul had they stayed together. Really when you think about it Rick Grech was the only non-superstar in the group and he wasn't bad at all.
Re: What are you listening to?
Daveho I don't know how old you are but I go all the way back to David Bowie's "ZIGGY STARDUST" days. I had the LP Hunky Dory ( the one you have pictured) about a year before Ziggy Stardust was even released ( early 72). Hunky Dory was a most interesting LP with songs like "Queen *****" and his parody songs about Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan were really cool ( even though I heard both guys really hated them :D ). That album really set the stage for the Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs LPs IMO. Even a lot of hard core Bowie fans don't even know that album even exists>> go figure :)
Also another interesting thing to note: Our local "Barnes & Noble" store here where I live for the past 3 years has been selling original vinyl LPs again and they can't keep them in stock. And 2 classic but hard to find rock albums I see in their display constantly are David Bowie's "Hunky Dory" and Iggy & the Stooges "FUNHOUSE" LP. Talk about two extremely obscure albums for them to be selling again here in the year 2018/2019>> and Stooges FUNHOUSE was a very obscure cult classic in the Rock genre even back then. That is really strange that those two albums in vinyl would be resurrected in this time

It’s well before my time-I just turned 30 so the day after and blackstar are the only albums I have in living memory.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 5:11 pmDaveho I don't know how old you are but I go all the way back to David Bowie's "ZIGGY STARDUST" days. I love that video...especially because it's just Steve on guitar and the popping fire in the background!JD Spydo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 5:06 pmThat's incredible that you would put that vintage Steve Winwood video up there  Because just last night a good friend of mine and I sat down and listened to the entire BLIND FAITH album  Oh yeah "Can't Find My Way Home" is the headliner that almost everyone remembers but there were other super-songs on that LP as well. Definitely was a super group with talent at every position! To think Winwood started in the Spencer Davis group at 14....wow! Davis saw Steve with his brother performing as the Muffy Wood Jazz Band...lol! He's a genius level musician and can play multiple instruments! Jimi Hendrix brought him in to play organ for Voodoo Chile!
James
He really shows his guitar skills here....

Re: What are you listening to?
Not only was STeve Winwood an early talent at a really young age he really made an indelible mark wherever he was planted at any particular time. His "Low Spark Of High Heel Boys" tune he did when he was in his second stint with the group "Traffic" was recently voted one of the top 5 most requested classic rock tunes at one of our local radio stations here in Kansas City, MO. It totally blows me away how many newer and older artists did their own version of "Can't Find My Way Home">> but to no avail because no one on the planet can sing that song like Winwood can.
Had BLIND FAITH stayed together I think they would have become a Super Group even better than Cream or Traffic. But there were so many money hungry producers and managers back in the day that only cared about the dollars and cents involved rather than the superb artistry that many of these 1960s/1970s musical geniuses had. It also blows me away how many young people like millenials and gen X really love the 1970s era bands like Zeppelin, Tull, Deep Purple, Hendrix, Joplin ect. After Nickelback and Jackyl I've pretty much lost interest in all the new rock and folk out there. There is just not the talent like there used to be

I've lost count how many times your highlighted comment has come out of my mouth in friendly conversation with people my age (50) and older!JD Spydo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 28, 2019 12:08 pmNot only was STeve Winwood an early talent at a really young age he really made an indelible mark wherever he was planted at any particular time. My father exposed me to a wide range of music while growing up. From classical to Frank Sinatra. ..and just about everything in between! After work and on the weekends, He had vinyl playing continuously on a beautiful wood console stereo /record player. Music was HUGE part of our families DNA.
My sister (10 years older then me) was heavy into 60s and 70s rock ...so by the time I was 10 (78) I already knew the lyrics to just about every Beatles and Led Zeppelin album she had! Elo, Frampton, Cream, Chicago , Boston, Bob Seger, Rolling Stones, The Who....the list goes on including the Mississippi Delta Blues. I dabbed a bit into alternative and Reggae in the late 80s, But my love for classic rock never waned.
I still hear a song from time to time that catches my ear from a new musical talent. But mostly it's my Playlist of 4 or 5 thousand songs from the greats of the past. The days of Blood Sweat and Tears and Elton John dominating the radio are long gone. ......
James
If I could only have one CD on a desert island. ...would have to be Mothership by Led Zeppelin!
