Well again we're all guessing here but I think that may have been the point. You can do a lot with lasers, maybe not take it down to a perfectly smooth finish but you can knock down the grind lines quite a bit and cut down on the friction.
It may not even be laser etching, it may be a coating they put on to reduce friction and detent ball wear. We won't know until someone from Spyderco confirms something.

I had same dark detent path on my Bodacious. And also the area was all criss cross lines of some sort of abrasives. It looks contraproductive to me
Bc the lines crosed the detent path and make the slow roll opening very gritty
Definitely worst part of the expierence with this otherwise awsome knife.

The 2025 pricing on the Bodacious is in place at some dealers. I hope the new pricing moves the needle on sales. I ordered one, the blackout version, when I saw the change.

That's a much more reasonable price, so I agree and hope it helps sales. I'd love to see exclusives start to go out with Bodacious, so hopefully they see the demand now with the better pricing.

As soon as I bought a Bodacious, I thought natural micarta would make it a great outdoors/camping folder. I knew it would look good, but this exceeded expectations.

Those look great! Tempting, but the knife is so new and I like the factory scales. Hmm, maybe I will rationalize them somehow. We'll see

The Bodacious is now my favorite knife - it's not even close. It's not not my perfect knife, but boy it's close!
Does anyone know of a maker of aftermarket scales who offers, or would provide on request, scales with right-side tip-down carry?

Contact Rockscale Design, I had a request about how my scales were made and they were the only maker that was willing to do what I asked (which was very minor).

I'm a big fan of the smooth G10, I wish that was the standard for Spyderco. But, I've wanted micarta on this as soon as I saw the model when it was released.

I've become obsessed with the Bodacious. At first I was disappointed in it as the "no choil Shaman" because it didn't come with the Shaman's round handle--as many were/are--and of course the price was ridiculous.
I caught the dlc version on sale for $164, and once I had it awhile, I realized it's actually the Spydie I've always wanted: no choil, handle grip positions going up to the edge, and generally neutral grip positions (also "skinniable" to be fully neutral). Throw on top it's front flippable with a small handle mod.
If it hadn't been tied to the Shaman and came in more like its current price, I would have reacted better, and I think it would have become a lot more popular. Anyone on the fence for reasons like I was, I'd say give it a shot next MAP sale.
Hoping now for a CF/s90v sprint and salt version

I'm holding out, but warming to trying this one soon, that's why I keep paying attention to the thread. I'm typically a choil enjoyer and user, but that said do like my Tenacious, Lil Temp 4, Spydiechef, etc etc... I don't like to say it this way, but honestly the Bodacious looks least like a "Spyderco" in-house design to me out of most of the Golden, CO lineup, so it's not what attracted my preferences at first.
But seeing more people rave about it has me coming around, eventually I'll cave. 15V BBB version would put one in my hands though.
Price is just high, outside my current budget for S30V general issue.

Agree on all fronts. It does stand out from other models as being to some degree anti Spyderco, and the Tenacious is probably the closest. As it is Golden made I hope it gets thrown in the catalog when sets of sprints come out like the CF/s90v, BBB 15v, etc.

I denied it at first as not making enough sense when compared to the Shaman.
But I realized there is enough about it that is different from the Shaman. Enough so that it became a target.
In part it was probably the reviews I watched. Partly it was a little more cutting length and maybe a bit more of an aesthetically pleasing design.
It's on the way.

My DLC version just showed up today from Dack Outdoors. For anyone curious I put my order in on February 12th and got it today so around a month and a half. It's a bit of a wait but was a pretty good deal and I've had others to keep me occupied.
It meets expectations and then some. The smooth G10 is different on this one than my first, it looks like it's peel ply but it's smooth. I guess it just depends on where in the laminate they end up during the machining process but you'd think they're all machines to the same thickness so this wouldn't vary that much. I like it though. I really think this model should get that chunky peel ply G10 like the Yojumbo has. It would also be so good in that contoured fluted carbon fiber like the Native got.
