I was most shocked about the atlantic salt in LC200N. met a guy who an under water welder and he said that in no uncertain terms the Atlantic salt SE was one of the best diving knives. Wonder if Seki is moving to magna-cut instead?
There's still a yellow H1/H2 SE Atlantic Salt.

When Spyderco moved the yellow Native Salt from LC200N to Magnacut, nothing got discontinued if I remember correctly. The part numbers didn't change.
Perhaps Seki is Running through it’s supply of LC200N and more wasn’t purchased to make room for Magna-Cut.

Surprised me to see the CF Chaparral on the list. It’s the smallest knife I can handle with confidence. Mine is extremely well made. It’s satisfying just opening and closing it—it’s made that well. So, I bought another one, along with the Sun and Moon. Got them from National Knives this morning. He’s sold out now. The Chaparral and the Sage are the only small knives I carry. I usually carry a Military. Love the CF Chaparral. Sorry to see it go.

Nothing in the US was discontinued because there's only a few models made in the US anyways, and they're the core models?

I looked at BladeHQ for Spyderco and it lists the number of models by Country of Origin (not 100% accurate but it’s an indication - Byrd not included in China models) and USA is just behind Japan:

  1. Japan (328)
  2. USA (296)
  3. China (116)
  4. Taiwan (96)
  5. Italy (17)
Yes but how many of those are variations of the same models? All the collaboration models or the more "unique" models seem to be Taiwanese made. Paysan, swayback, techno, etc probably sell way less than pm2s etc

I used the current Spyderco price list to come up with more accurate data BEFORE the new discontinued list.

Number of items for each category:

  • Folding Knives: 386
  • Fixed Blades: 35
  • Kitchen Knives (ALL): 35
  • Sharpners (ALL): 29
  • Accessories (ALL): 88
  • Byrd: 57

Just looking at ALL 386 Folding Knives (excluding Byrd line) by Country of Origin:

  1. Japan: 166
  2. USA: 113
  3. China: 60
  4. Taiwan: 34
  5. Italy: 13

Thanks. A few minor corrections.

Chaparral & HoneyBee are in the unique Folding Knives models list twice because the Spyderco price list had them with two different spellings — Chapparal & Honeybee. So, there are only 89 unique models instead of 91.

Also, I should remove the 8 Sprint Runs from the Folding Knives which would bring it down to 378 from 386.

On another note, when you look at the Delica4 with 28 variations (excluding the one Sprint) and to that add 10 Salt2 models (pretty much a Delica) you end up with 38 variations! Same with 26 Endura4 models plus 9 Pacific Salt2 models you end up with 35 variations in all!

Man, that is a lot of variants and parts to source, make, stock and move. We already knew that, but having the numbers makes it look even more impressive. No wonder the existence of some models slips my mind from time to time.

I’ll add that compared to production companies in other areas of manufacturing that I’m more intimately familiar with, the number of SKU’s is not at all that impressive, but in those cases the range of products is much more diverse. Given that the overwhelming majority of Spyderco’s SKUs are just different interpretations of a sharpened edge with a handle, the numbers still WOWs me.

Torn on these K390 wharncliffes... On the one hand could always use more K390. On the other, the S30V Delica wharncliffe I picked up end of last year has not at all displaced my usual hap40 Delica.

Hmm. Wallet might be safe this time around.
Knifeworks has added the disco'd models to their sales page, a little later than some other shops. If you're still searching for something that is already sold out elsewhere check it out.

Made a liar out of my above post; never owned a Sage series so I did grab a Sage 5 CF/G10.

RamZar,
great list, love it and thanks for taking the time to compile it. Take a look at number 31 and 38. Both show the Stretch but with different spelling. Believe there to be 4 different Stretch variants at present time.

Shame about the rockjumper. I was hoping they'd bring out a K390 version.

Thanks.

It should be (once you exclude the Sprint Run):

— Stretch 2: 2
— Stretch 2 XL: 4

I was on the fence about ordering a Rockjumper. I already have two Delica Wharncliffs that are pretty close. I have a store credit at National so I asked if they expect to get more in. He said hopefully next week. He's waiting to receive an invoice to know what's coming. If National doesn't receive any I'll look elsewhere. Not a big deal if I don't end up with one

And I also have an S35vn Resilience coming from National. My first and couldn't resist it at 85.00. I had been looking at getting one for about 3 months now and I waited just long enough.

Interesting. Thank you for that, RamZar. I wonder if the Byrd brand provides enough value for Spyderco at this point to justify a separate line? 🤔

I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to the thin (red/blue) line Endura, somewhere buried in the disco'ed list and before it's gone.

Combo edge ffg in VG10 with a good (though not 100% perfect for my liking) serration pattern on the SE part (and the closest yet to the ffg, regular blade shape, full SE, VG10 Endura I am still hoping and waiting for).

A really useful all around - all purpose EDC folder, I think the red (blue) accents look cool, and after all fire fighters resp. Police gets supported when purchasing one (not sure though if the latter is still true with reduced prices).

Image
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I have one of the Rescue 3 ones for under $80 delivered.
