This is one of the things I was pointing out earlier:James Y wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 8:35 pmBolster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 7:52 pm
No offense here, either. I guess it all comes down to how many people would want one. If the market wants it, sure. I think it's too big for my pocket (and/or socks) but perhaps I'm the runtish minority. I still haven't purchased a Chief yet because it's "too big" for me. Clearly lots of people think otherwise.
God rest ye, merry gentlemen! May nothing you dismay.
Perhaps an extra large-ish Chief will somehow find its way
Into your pocket or your sock-drawer or into a sheath
Where you use it to make a Christmas wreath!
TBH, I've still yet to buy a regular Chief myself. I'm guessing it's the same size as my Police 4 lightweight, which is comfortable for me, size-wise, but is pretty much the length limit I would personally carry in a folder. Starting from about 4.5 to 5 inches, I prefer a fixed blade, as the handle length on a folder is longer.
Why haven't I bought a Chief? I'm hoping for it to switch over to Magnacut. Which probably isn't going to happen anytime soon, if ever. It would cost a lot more by then, too. Maybe I'll just pull the trigger and get a standard one before the end of the year...still got a week to go...

police - 5.63" (143mm)
chief - 5.08" (129mm)
.55" or 22mm difference in their closed measurements.
A 4.5" blade Chief would be about the same closed length as the Police or Military. Knives Spyderco has been selling for decades.
That's why I thought all the pocket sword references were silly. This is more like going from the Endura to the Police.
The Chief is very compact despite having the same cutting edge as a Military. It carries closer to an Endura than a Police.
