Brian,
Every Spyderco Forum knife is very special: Lava and Adventura were designed by the forum members, 2009 Native was the first FFG Native, had unique scale color and terrific lazer etch. Military had a silver bug. N3 and Spyderhawk were blue. 2013 Native was the first production Spyderco with S110V, diamond cut scales and the best in the world color of scales (do not argue) :D :)
R.
I'll go on a case by case basis, but looking at the Lava and Adventura and Military in retrospect, I don't think they are special enough to be a must buy. The Native 4 seemed pretty special for the same reason.

Probably you are correct at this time. Back then, both Chad and Alex were very active forum members, who hang out here every day. They were regular guys like the rest of us. Lava and Adventura became their first knives made into production. Both knives were very special for forum member back then.

I voted for the SUPERHAWK. Simply because I never thought that great Hawkbill ever got a chance to get out of the gate so to speak. In my opinion and in no way do I mean this to be hostile or disagreeable or ill-willed>> but when the Superhawk was in the main line up I thought that it was doomed on the sales charts because it was not available in Spyderedge.

The reason I think that was important is because at least 95% of all of the Hawkbill blades Spyderco has ever sold are Spyderedged. Most people who use Hawkbills either in the fishing industry or whatever occupation they use them in they most of the time prefer serrated edges especially when working with any type of rope, nylon straps or cordage of any type.

I love the Superhawk model and I think a CF handled or G-10 handled, Spyderedged version would be a big hit with Forum members. Either that or a G-10 Harpy SE would be my vote for a FORUM Knife. GOD Bless The Great SPYDER FACTORY :)

I like the way that you've laid out the data GoldenSpydie :)
It is much easier to see than having to click on a tiny screen capture.
Anyone who wants to post updated numbers at any time can also easily "quote your post" and then just update the numbers.

With all the voters being currently spread out into a bunch of models, the race is far from over........but it's not looking good for the Caly 3.5 right now. :(

Ah well, perhaps there is a Forum PM2 in my future ;)

But then again, maybe not? Time will tell .........it might also end up being "none of the above" as well - but hopefully the expression of support for the Caly 3.5 model as shown through this polling will open up the possibility of future sprint models.

I would really love to one day be able to pick up a bolstered Damascus CF Caly 3.5 ..........the Caly 3 model is absolutely gorgeous and it would be a shame not to give its bigger brother the same treatment some day. :)

I'm new to the forums, but doesn't it seem anywhere there is an option for ParaMilitary 2, it will always get most popularity votes???

I voted SuperLeaf.

Wish there was option for another Breeden Rescue!
Going back to Caly.

There's a spinoff thread ( http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtop ... =2&t=66522" target="_blank in case you haven't seen it yet) where people are touting other knives they'd like in hopes that they can start a movement for their favorite, but so far no suggestion has gained much momentum. Quite a bit of discussion and deliberation preceded this poll, and it's unlikely that it'll be derailed at this point, but the other thread gives people yet another venue to blow off steam :D

Since the top two knives have the majority of the votes, it seems a runoff would be in order. Has this been discussed? (Of course this poll does not determine what the forum knife will be or even if there will be one -- just what some folks would like for it to be ;) )

Hi Doug,

That was discussed at the beginning of the thread although no date was indicated as to when this runoff consolidation voting should start. I would propose that we leave the normal voting process in place until next Wednesday evening and then take a snapshot of the voting at that time and then announce the start of the runoff voting process. I will alter the initial post and thread title to reflect these changes in voting as well as putting up the results to date within the initial post. That would leave 4 days remaining in the poll for past voters to switch their votes to an alternate knife if their current vote is for a knife that is not going to be in contention.

Any voters finding this thread after that date should vote to rally behind the knife that they would most prefer among those that are still in contention.

I don't think we should leave the runoff voting to anything less than 3 days but if others think that we should stretch it to 5 days then that would also be reasonable too. After all, not every one is online everyday and we want to provide enough time for everyone to make their alternate vote.

If there are no real objections to this proposal then I would suggest that we proceed with the switch in voting next Wednesday night. I like the way that GoldenSpydie has summarized the voting so if he has no objection to tallying the votes next Wednesday night to kickoff the runoff voting then I think that is the way we should go. If GS is otherwise occupied next Wednesday then I will look after it before going to bed next Wednesday and post in the same format that GS has already provided for us or take GS's posted results and insert it into the first post of the thread.

Foundry 1 1%

Spyderco R (Solid Non-skeletonized Blade) 5 4%

SuperLeaf 5 4%

As was discussed previously at the very start of the polling and again more recently, now that the vote has stabilized and there are hardly any new voters appearing on the scene, it is time for a "run-off vote". This is by no means mandatory as it is of course an open vote and no one can force anyone to switch their voting preference.

However, if your 2nd choice preference IS NOT the current poll leader and you would like your vote to be counted towards another worthy contender that you would prefer over the current leader then here is the opportunity.

Realistically, with the current voting this would mean aligning yourself behind the Caly 3.5 which has the best chance of overtaking the PM2 or potentially behind the Manix 2......which could also bring this knife into 2nd place. Or, then again.......the 38 remaining votes outside of the top 3 leaders (50+34+15 = 99) could all go directly to the PM2 and blow this knife past all others. Who knows.......it could be interesting though.

As I have stated numerous times before, and which I have to also sometimes remind myself of as well, is that this vote has to be taken with a few grains of salt since Spyderco has not promised to do anything as a result of any vote.........except "to watch".....as Sal put it. The next forum knife might not even come from ANY of the available models currently being polled. In any case, I am sure that whatever Spyderco and Sal decide to offer us Forumites as the next Forum Knife will be "a treat" and very well received.

I am still amazed at the 2013 S110v Diamond-cut Green G10 Native 5 Forum knife that was offered the last time around .......what an incredibly generous gesture by Spyderco to provide such a cutting edge exotic steel in such an attractive package with that level of fit and finish as their Forum knife.

So let's have everyone's voting count towards narrowing this thing down.......whatever the results are, hopefully the exercise and the data collected is of some use to Spyderco.

Regards All.......ManixFan

P.S. I will insert this post into the original first post and see if I can update the thread title too.

I would vote for it too -- if it's the leaf blade version with foliage green, khaki, or forest green G-10. M4 or any other metal except maybe BD-1, but I would take that if it was the only choice.

Ah man... none of my picks have a chance.

Superleaf or Hawk would have been oh so slick since they would have had more possibility of Super Blue Sprint!!!!

Even if Caly 3.5 wins it has already been done in Super Blue...

Ahh, but there is always HAP40 or Hitachi XCVII.........similar to M4......which are Japanese steels and so are a possibility for this model.

But I am somewhat surprised at the sudden spurt of fresh voters though........gains are being made across several models not from past voters switching their votes to their preferred contender but from new voting.

That is welcome too.......I guess we'll have to see if people re-visit the thread to see what exactly the "run off voting" is all about and realize that they can help narrow things down by going with their second choice. We might see more of this nearer to the end if people are keeping their card close to their vest until the end.

I'm not going to record any voting updates over the next 4 days but if anyone wants to record these for the sake of posterity then GoldenSpydie has set up a nice format, which I also borrowed in my last reporting of the votes, that can easily be cut and pasted and then updated.
