Wow, what a thread! Sometimes people just need to sit back and relax. It's just a chunk of metal and epoxy filled fibers of glass. Not worth getting too worked up about.
I'm on the side that this is priced way too high. Somehow I doubt it will sell out quickly, especially with how poorly the pricing has been received here on the forum. If the biggest fans of Spyderco that we have here are not willing to pay this price, I seriously doubt the regular Joe will have any interest. Now, add a Ti framelock and CF front scale to the knife, and then we can start talking at the current price. As it is, I think the value proposition just isn't there to sell a bunch of these. A few of them? Sure. But not a lot.
All that needs to happen now is that another shop should commission a 20CP sprint run, but more in the $200-225 range. Those would sell like hotcakes! Hey Chuck and Donut, I'm sure you guys have piles of cash laying around and could get your own run, right? :D We could call it the Military Chucknut Special! I'd buy one.

Seems to me that most of the new models are coming out of Taiwan or Japan, as they probably have the extra capacity to produce the new models.black wrote:Sometimes I'm thinking this myself. Why so many new models but still no Yojimbo/ para 2 readily available?
Not sure - I'm not saying you're not right, but I'm sometimes amazed at how much more people will pay on eBay than they need to. As an example that's very close to this thread, during at least one period when the blue Para2s were available from BBS people were paying ~$100 over that price on eBay, and it wasn't because they were overseas. People just don't shop carefully, even when a few minutes with Google would save lots of money.Popsickle wrote:this is very disappointing. I will be passing on this. at an absolute secondary market price I guarantee you will see this show up on the actual secondary market at reduced pricing.

It's auction fever and I've been a victim of it. Afterwards, I wondered why did I buy this cr*p and worse, why did I pay so much for it? I have not bid on anything for years. The last item I had my CFO submit a winning bid of $140k for a mass spec for my lab; otherwise we would have been bankrupt.JNewell wrote:Nt sure - ... Ebay and Pay Pal fee's have also jumped. It seems $25% is taken off the top.
Still, I agree I have paid more than I should have on the Bay.
I am thinking KW's business will boom due to these types of threads / sales.
As soon as folks realize the deals and service they get, it wont be long till KW get's rewarded for being honest and fair retailers.

Since I can't ship out knives, I'd get stuck with all 600 20CP militaries. That would be awesome but a bit impractical. :D

Haven't kept up with how much those go for on the secondary markets have we now?? And I will also throw the M390 Millie in that pile too..both those editions go for quite a bit more than $270 now.Brummie wrote:Think I'll just stick with the s90v / CF military I bought new for around $130 a few years back.
Too me that's the issue, everyone can yell about the price, and I agree it is high, but they will sell for more than $270 on the secondary markets..the Blue Para2 is a good example of that..sold for $180, which a lot of people complained about, then they were selling for upwards of twice that on the big auction site just a few months later

I expect we'll see them listed for $400-$450 on BF about 15 seconds after they hit the flippers' mailboxes.Philo Beddoe wrote:Haven't kept up with how much those go for on the secondary markets have we now?? That's besides the point. What came first, the chicken or the egg. The fact is that the vast majority feel that this "dealer" is charging too high with no customer service or even garantees that it will arrive to speak of. The secondary market is a separate concern. As high as the secondary prices are, it is even more imperative that we speak up and say enough with this one dealer gouging. They arent breaking any rules but if they want to charge scalper prices, I suggest for Spyderco to bring their few exclusives slots to someone else.Philo Beddoe wrote: Too me that's the issue, everyone can yell about the price, and I agree it is high, but they will sell for more than $270 on the secondary markets..the Blue Para2 is a good example of that..sold for $180, which a lot of people complained about, then they were selling for upwards of twice that on the big auction site just a few months later

Very very sadly I can't afford this one...I really really want a S90V military...like super a lot. But just too much else that needs money.
If some kind person bought 2 and wanted to sell it to me a few months from now...that I would totally do...with a reasonable amount of interest.
Hope that isn't too close to bst post. If it is I'll edit once I'm home...

On the hunt for...
You really can't say that a dealer that charges MSRP is "gouging" or charging "scalper prices." I know we're accustomed to discounts from MSRP, but that doesn't make MSRP outrageous.FCM415 wrote:That's besides the point. What came first, the chicken or the egg. To me it is, and if they weren't I'd be buying this S90v Military exclusive. Not even fluted titanium, carbon fiber, S110v Spydercos cost nearly this much. This is a gouge. It's my opinion. "You can't say this" and "you can't think that" are your opinions. MSRP to me is not the concern. To me and me alone, I think that THEM charging $300 after taxes, shipping, and insurance for this knife is outrageous. This is what I think. What I think is my prerogative and you may disagree, but your views aren't facts but are simply opinions as well. Why can't I think it's gouging? Because you said so? Is there an official gouging guideline for me to follow? You think it's fair for them to sell it at whatever price they want and I agree they are free to do so, and are also free to treat their customers however they want, but I think (my opinion) that they are gouging outrageous flippers. JNewell, you have taken a starring role in this with me, I assure you that I understand your position. As for mine, I know that you've been trying to deconstruct it one piece at a time. My position is clear. I hope that either a sprint or a dealer exclusive from a different source Military in S90v comes out sometime in the future for everyone here on this thread that shared their disappointment on not getting one because of this dealer.JNewell wrote:You really can't say that a dealer that charges MSRP is "gouging" or charging "scalper prices." Sad, but this is the first Military sprint I'm passing since 2006 - when I've entered the select 'respectable gentlemen who own more than 2 Millies' club...
oh, that ^^^ tooBrummie wrote:Think I'll just stick with the s90v / CF military I bought new for around $130 a few years back.
Regardless of our native language, we all speak "knife" - Sal
Yep. As someone who used to regularly sell on that site. I stopped once I realized the double whammy from a Ebay AND PayPal fee was not worth it. Now, I just pay a PayPal fee....well my customer covers that now when they pay for shipping :)MCM wrote:Ebay and Pay Pal fee's have also jumped. It seems $25% is taken off the top.

I don't think that will be a problem. It took awhile for the first run of the M390 para2's to sell out. And they did a second run, and they are planning to do a third run of the para2's next year IIRC.DeathBySnooSnoo wrote:Very very sadly I can't afford this one...I really really want a S90V military...like super a lot. I suspect the S90V Military will take awhile to sell out; and I expect they'll be doing multiple runs.
Moving on....
IMHO It'll be tough on those who would buy three and sell two at a profit. People may not pay a high price for one on the exchange if they know there's going to be more at BBS. Kinda makes you feel sorry for the flippers, huh ?
I think it's nice that BBS is keeping these models in a form of continued production. What's even better is that other dealers are imitating them, not in the high prices, but in reordering more of a dealer exclusive. Knifeworks is ordering more of the green Para2 and Cutlery Shoppe might be ordering more of the orange para2's. Seems like there's been a lot of waves of the brown Para2's too.
As for the high price, it's $270. You can't blame BBS for Calif taxes. There's plenty of other high priced Spydercos. The South Fork is $240, a fluted Ti Military is $250, Warrior is $250, LionSpy is 250. You take one look at BBS's website and you can see they aren't a high volume dealer. They charge higher prices. Considering the S90V Para2 was close to $200, I'm curious where people would "correctly" price the Military between the $200 Para2 and BBS's $270.
Most of the knives you listed are collabs or require extensive work and have materials that cost more. This knife would be appropriately priced at the sub 200 mark. The only thing in this knife that is expensive is S90V and that's not so hard to get these days.shunsui wrote:

Why then was the S90V Para2 expensive ?Popsickle wrote:Most of the knives you listed are collabs or require extensive work and have materials that cost more. At any rate, if you start with a $200 Para2 and just add the $40 difference in price between a S30V Para2 and a S30V Military, you're up to $240 already.
