I may be reading into this too much but Sal said neither are compression locks which includes the ball bearing lock. I don't think he meant THE compression lock, but compression type locks (Compression, Ball Bearing, Bolt Action, Axis, and maybe the Hawk Lock, can't remember its innards).PayneTrain wrote:Hah, a true man of mystery! Ok, ball bearing lock and...pffffft...the new stop lock? In that order.

Yes, I too remember there being some discussion where they aren't ruling out locks that Spyderco designed.mattman wrote:I think they caved to popular demand, and decided to put the compression lock and ball lock in the que, per an old Byte post...
In on my phone, or I'd search it... It might be linked earlier in this thread...?

Per the December 2013 Spyderco Byte:
"The uniqueness of the Sage concept is also ideal for knife collectors, who often prefer to concentrate on specific themes for their collections. Many Spyderco enthusiasts have purchased all four of the current Sage models and are eagerly anticipating future knives in the series.
What does the future hold for the Sage Series? Well, in addition to continuing to recognize the contributions of other designers, based on popular demand we plan to showcase our own lock innovations, including our patented Compression Lock and Ball Bearing Lock. These locks have definitely stood the test of time and earned their rightful place alongside the other notable mechanisms in the series."

Think you're seeing what you want to see, or I'm seeing what I want to. He said "neither are Compression locks", and while the other lock types you mentioning may technically work on a compression principle, the capitalized Compression may very well mean he was referring specifically to Spyderco's trademark Compression lock. Since the Compression lock comes in two forms, liner and integral, that would account for the plural "locks". Or he could just have said locks because he was speaking of two upcoming Sage models.nccole wrote:I may be reading into this too much but Sal said neither are compression locks which includes the ball bearing lock. Thanks for finding it, RS!
