Got mine today :D very sharp, very nice. I plan on doing CF scales for all my MT purchases. Ive got a roll of CF just need some other stuff and some time.

That 5 new :spyder: s in the last two weeks, that sure is a lot for someone who is broke

Gosh, I'm glad to have participated in this release after whining for the past 9 months on these forums... :o

It's a wonderful knife. Life's been busy (I'm a student once again), so it might be a while before it has scales or a sheath. But the edge on my MT02 really impressed my classmates!

Iam paying 68.00 ........ they go to the best of my knowledge for 80.00 ,

The mule team project is part of what make Spyderco my favorite knife company. I have purchased the first model and am awaiting the next few. I did have one question relating to the handle design.

I have a somewhat long thumb, which makes some of the designs such as the Caly3 and Delica with the high thumb hump uncomfortable when I have to use some force to cut something. The knives like the Sage or native are much more comfortable. One of the most ergonomic handle designs Spyderco has is the Stretch II. If I remember correctly, Sal stated the handle on the Stretch was one of the most refined and should fit 99% of the hands out there. The handle design on the Mule seems to be a close relative of the Stretch except for the location and geometry of the thumb ramp.

Why is it different?

Is this to provide a more positive stop for the thumb?

The Stretch has a finger choil which brings the thumb farther forward when holding the knife. The Mule team has a similar handle to the Stretch, but without the finger choil, the hand (including the thumb) are pushed farther back on the handle.

I think Sal heard your question as "Will scales made for the first Mule fit the second release?".

I heard your question as "Can I remove scales from any current production Spyderco and put them on the Mule?".

I'm pretty comfortable saying - No - there are no production Spyderco knives whose handle is shaped like that.

There are people here you can have make a set of scales for you (in carbon fiber, micarta, wood, G10 or whatever) that will fit perfectly. Many of these look fantastic - much nicer than mine which has a simple para-cord wrap.

I just wrapped mine yesterday. It came out very nice. My earlier attempt at wood scales was a disaster :eek: .

Bottom line is - It needs some customization, either by you or by someone who is good at such things.

I've E-mailed one guy and never heard back from him.

I guess I'll make my own from White Oak or Hickory, and checker them 18 LPI so I can hand on to the handle. :p

Won't be pretty, but should be functional. :spyder:

Then I'll need to have a horizontal kydex sheath made for it. That I won't even consider trying to do myself. :eek:
