I'm kind of excited about this knife, I didn't think I'd like it that much. I the bladelength is somewhere around 2,5 inches, but it genuinely feels like a real working folder (with a 3 inch blade or so). The notch joint action is a lot smoother than my black G10 UKPK I got about 2 years ago. The handle felt 'just right' for my hands. As far as I'm concerned nothing needs to be changed on the Urban. I'll take one in Orange with a leaf shape blade. Other blade styles will be the pictured Wharncliffe and a safety point (rounded tip). One version of the Urban will feature a bolster, to create a more traditional look. The leaf shape blade has a subtle belly, moreso than a Caly III for example. The tip is needle sharp too!......

Wow, these knives look fantastic! I love the Orange colour in the G-10 and the leaf blade is very nice. I also like the smaller blades. I wonder if and when these will be available!! I really want one! I probably shouldn't have started reading this thread though!

thanks for the detailed reviews and ongoing eye candy photos Wouter ... it's gonna be an expensive year for sure ;)
the Native4 looks incredible and the pix of the Smallfly got me shaking my head ..what a friggin' shame it is it's gonna be "illegal" for me to purchase
but the Superhawk looks phenomenal with the beloved Stretch CF handle :)
The Urban looks like a winner to Spyderco, I've become very endeared to my Robin and the size profile looks perfect for urban/suburban edc in the USA... that wharnecliffe blade looks extra tasty  :spyder:

Why is it illegal to purchase. All I have ever scene in TN law is that a butterfly knife shall not be considered a switchblade.

Any word on a release for the white micarta Wayne Goddard jr. and the foliage green rookie? Also, anyone know the specs (blade length etc) on the Goddard and Rookie?

I really love the Barong...but being in NYC it might be too big for me, especially if it's approaching the 4" area..

:)
:spyder: Fred Perrin Street Beat, Blue Yojimbo, Black Yojimbo, Chinook III, Lava (x2), Delica

For 2008: Rocklobster, Rookie, Phoenix, Barong, Khukuri, Lum Chinese folder, Urban

One question I have as a newbie is, is it possible to get in on the "numbered" action? Only the first 200 of each knife is numbered, no?
I am not sure if someone answered this already... I was not able to read all the posts in this thread (sort of distracted by the pictures... :D )

You can join the collector's club... BUT there is an issue you need to remember.

If you are just a "main piece" member, you will get new models. This are NEW models ONLY... So knives like the Rookie,G-10 Police, Lum, White FRN knives, etc... you would not get. Those are variants of existing models. You would need to be an "all variant" member to get those knives... And as you can tell (since you "pledge" you will get all knives) can be a LOT of knives in a year.

You can also top out you membership as a Kopa Collector also.

Mr Blonde wrote:A different kind of Save And Serve model is the Jumpmaster. This knife was designed after a request from a ....yes...jumpmaster from the 82nd Airborne. After some back and forth, Sal visited the designer at his 'workplace' in South Carolina. There was even some actual static line at the meet, so we could see the material this knife was designed to cut. Sal gave all designing credit to the people who worked with the Spydercrew on this design.

THe knife is made from H-1, to keep it as low-maintenance as possible. At first I wasn't too enthusiatic about the announce FRN handle and sheath, but I was pleasantly surprised. The FRN for the handle has a nice texture to it, very solid. Notice the Temperance lineage in the pattern.

How come the name was changed from "Devil Jumpmaster"?

Hi Wouter,

Just a quick note before starting work. I really like your photographs a lot. Your work is as always very much appreciated.
I saw you in action in A'dam. Amazing what superior quality you can get nowadays out of such a small camera.

It has been great meeting you in person. I look forward to your IWA pictures ;) (if you are going this year).

Regards,
André

Getting like Benchmades line

#133

Post by redback »

The new knives have somewhat moved away from the "bird's skull" design, which was getting old to my eyes anyway...

Image

The new designs look a lot like Benchmade products, and I'm glad. I'm partial to Benchmade knives, as are a lot of people here, even if only secretly. But let's be grown up about this — Benchmade have some superb designs and Spyderco was reaching the end of the line with the birdskull motif. I'll be buying this new Spyderco line because it looks a lot better to my eyes, much more like the other good company's products. You can see some of the similarities to Benchmade below:

Altogether, some sensible business decisions have been made. Congrats, Sal and Eric.
My Spyderco knives: C95 Manix (x2), Dragonfly, Endura, Rescue, S1 Salt (x2) (EDC), Flat Byrd, Tenacious
Other: BM Rukus (x2)(EDC), BM Skirmish, BM Mini-Griptilian, Fallkniven S1, CS Spike, Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert, Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife, CS Finn Bear, Ontario RAT-7 (x2), many Ontario machetes

Well,

Short story even shorter :) the Goddard is a reproduction of a knife made by Spyderco in 1992 IIRC...
The chinese folder from Spyderco was first made in 2000.

As a couple of points for anyone to consider.

Then again, i'm partial to Spyderco knives.

Somebody is definitely reaching. It's not Spyderco however.
