One of the locals around here. The hawk let me get within 5 feet, even though I was with my old dog.

That is a great pic. They are much larger than you would think when you get that close. I had a hawk on my back gate one time. Turned a corner looked up and there it was right in front of me. Had a light shade of blue on its chest. It's size was intimidating.

Betsy Ross became a big girl today.
Not only did she lay her first egg, but she laid TWO.

Looks like a prickly dinner, but nature finds a way.

You are going to have to get a lot closer
before I can identify that.

Are you visiting or do you live in the area? I’m a reasonable drive from it.

I'm in Tallahassee. During 2020 I spent a good bit of time down at the lighthouse and out along the bike trail.
I found out why St. Marks Wildlife Refuge closes at sundown. I counted 8 (mostly little) cottonmouths on that walk. The first I almost stepped on!

Other than macro, during the fall/winter/spring seasons here in Minnesota, I like to chase owls and other raptors with my camera. Here's a few shots of owls from over the years. -Chad

Awesome owl shots! That great horned owl photo is menacing!
I live next to a salt marsh and had a great horned owl living in the area for a couple years. I would hear him hooting almost nightly last winter. Never caught a glimpse of him but I would absolutely love to get some photos.

Those owls are great. And the spiders too.
