Like Bolster I'm curious as well now too, if it is not what I thought you meant, what are the deviations from earlier releases and practices that you think could be indicative of a trend? Linerless 9Cr Byrds?
First of all, I never expected any kind of dissemination or scrutiny of a post that was just a lighthearted expression of positivity toward a reveal where I ultimately may end up passing on most, if not everything that was revealed.
I mean, usually when I see a reveal where very little appeals to me, there's some level disappointment (this doesn't only apply to Spyderco). This reveal left me with a positive impression despite containing very little of direct interest to me.
Some of it is probably just a sub consciously feeling of the reveal as a whole, some of it is maybe based on misinterpretation of what's presented (e.g. it maybe isn't as new as I think or I'm putting to much into it) and some of it is perhaps rooted in reality. It also didn't help that my fingers went a little too quick over the keyboard, english isn't my first language so to avoid misunderstandings it's usually a good idea to proofread at least once before I post. None of that should have mattered much, I was only expressing my own positive feelings about the reveal - so within that scope there isn't really a right or wrong.
I think I touched on most of what made me enjoy this reveal in my initial post, but sure let's elaborate:
- NAND: there has been no shortage of forumites asking for more new designs. With this design there's almost more new than we can handle. It shows that Spyderco is still willing and capable of releasing some radically different knives. A trend? Lets hope so.
- Magnacut Sage: we knew this one was coming, and while a great release in itself, is it not also the first magnacut salt from Taiwan?, or from any Spyderco factory outside the US? I may have my facts mixed up, either way I hope it's indicative of a trend.
- G-10 bugs: As with the Sage salt, I think it's very cool that they did this change/addition to the bug lineup, and it really caught me by surprise. Even I think that hoping for this to indicate a trend is putting to much into it, but it would probably make a lot of forumites happy if this caught on and spread to other models/factories as well.
- Gooney: There's a lot about this knife I'd like to see catch on. The origin story, the blade shape and the materials/construction. I could be wrong here, because honestly I haven't payed too much attention to the Byrd line, but it's my impression that both 9cr and linerless G-10 are new/rare features to the Byrd family. And both addresses some of the main sources to my disinterest in Byrds so far.
- Spynano: hehe.. I think this has been covered already. Let's close this door while other forum members are still interested in this thread.
edit: Oh, and while maybe not confirmed yet, seeing what looks to be linerless micarta backlocks also made me happy, even though I'm not interested in more N5s or Chiefs at the moment.

There were other 15V Sprints shown at the Amsterdam Meet in February 2024 which didn’t make it into Reveal 16:
- Lil' Native Compression Lock CPM-15V Brown G-10 C230GPBN15V (USA) - Amsterdam Meet (FEB 2024)
- Manix2 Lightweight CPM-15V Brown FRCP C101PBN15V2 (USA) - Amsterdam Meet (FEB 2024)
- MicroJimbo CPM-15V Brown G-10 C264GPBN15V (USA) - Amsterdam Meet (FEB 2024)

The grasshopper lineup getting sandvik 12c27 has me intrigued.
Just noticed that myself. Hopefully that means some 14C28N models on the way. One of my favorite steels that Spyderco doesn't use (yet?).
If I recall triple b Shawn was working on a heat treat for 19C27 sandvik for a mule team. I still think the Aeb-l heat treat is criminally overlooked on that mule team that he provided.

Well, if I ever "dare" to try out 15V, I think the Manix 2 LW could very well be my preferred platform for that.. I guess I'd also like the handle color.

I'm sure it will come. Such a useful design. I would strongly encourage anyone who's ever been hawkbill curious to give this a try.

Love the Manbug on the keychain. I’ve tried so many of them. Really like the SpyderEdge (SE) which has a tiny bit of straight edge at the tip. ZDP and VG-10 get rust spots in my sweaty pants. Back to Sheepsfoot H-1. A Manbug Salt SE with a Hawkbill or Wharncliffe blade would be great.

I begged Eric for that Military 2 in CPM 15V.
Very exciting to see its finally getting closer to being in our pockets.
That's some serious slicing power.
If the Police 4, Native Chief, and Military 2 were all US made models, which would you pick with 15v?
I could use a rex45 Military 2 to pair with the 15v one
The military 2 hands down, I really like what they did with the military 2 and how they slimmed down the width at the transition area at the pivot and finger choil.
Looks very sleek and is very comfortable.
Also it really makes the larger pivot hardware stand out, I feel the appearance of this just has a lot of bravado.
I also love the huge swooping belly and the very pointy tip. That's a slicing beast.
Got to love the compression lock also.

16 Reveals and still no Dodofly. Surely it will be in Reveal 17...

No Chief in 15V is a bit of a heart-breaker for me. I am considering the Yojimbo 15V though just to see how it would do with the hollow grind. Seems like it would be a good match.
Edit - I didn't see the post about the Manix 2 LW getting 15V at some point. I'll definitely wait for that; with AWT scales it would be a monster.

Hopefully so. 17 is a special number to me. Would be cool if they make one.

I like your enthusiasm. Please tell me more about your use cases for specifically a hawkbill. I got a wharncliffe se and leaf se manbug amongst others. Not sure I need a hawkbill one.

The NAND looks like a Kershaw Tilt and a Kiwi had a baby. In a good way.
Happy to see the Bug slipjoints getting a better steel than 3cr.

.... and like with each new Reveal I "hopelessly hope" for a fully serrated Manix...
Let it be the "base" BD1N LW, and I´d be perfectly happy.
I guess lending more towards full SE would be the MC Manix Salt though - since pretty much every FRN SALT folder (I know that the Manix 2 LW actually and technically comes in FRCP..) does offer a serrated variant..

...but sure let's elaborate:
Good post! I'm interested in trends that Spyderco is following (or making!), but often feel I can't see them as well as others can, since I'm not as plugged into the knife world as are the
real enthusiasts. However, I have been around the forum long enough to see interest in particular attributes wax and wane, so clearly there are trends or "tides." I'm interested to see if handle forward is a trend, if lightweight is a trend, if 15V is a trend, if fewer new releases is a trend, if 'salt' is a trend, if flippers are a trend, if linerless is a trend, and so on.
