I've heard Eric compare the Edgerati to the Q, R, and S a few times now and I like how the Edgerati kind of fills the role as a proxy for an unofficial "T" model. The "Edgera-T" :cheap-sunglasses

Also, I know it would have had great impact on the price but titanium handles would have made for a fun play on words with the name, EdgeraTi or Edgera-Ti... ;)
This made me laugh in a good way. :smlling-eyes

Held it in Amsterdam. Felt weird. The weight of the handle compared with the heavier blade makes it feel almost too light. The lightness gave me the impression of cheapness. I have an R model and this knife seemed even lighter.
Very nicely made but not for me.

Nothing like the original “R”

I see great resemblance with the triangular skeletonizing of the scales; Which is what Eric was comparing. :thinking

...it is very very light for it's size....
Comparatively, at 3.3 oz, the Edgerati is medium-heavy for its blade size. For both blade:weight and edge:weight, it's not a lightweight, when you compare it to other Spyderco offerings, particularly in FRN or FRCP. For a metal-handled knife, yeah, it's light. Depends on what you compare it to.

It's a unique, eye-catching knife, just not a lightweight champ. Some folks seek out a substantial knife and prefer the weight. I think when we see all that air space in the handle we assume it's relatively light. I did too, until I ran the numbers.
A normal Shaman is ~5.2 oz, Edgerati is 3.3 oz. it’s a very light Shaman.
That is what I was thinking when I looked at the weight. It is also lighter than my Endura, which is a bit longer than the Edgerati, but for me they fit within the same size gap. That is to say they would be interchangable and serve the same role in my case.

A lot of collectors and Spyderco afis do not have access to equipment that could grind chamfering into G-10.
Sandpaper is that hard to find where you live?

I agree that I'd like to see more chamfering on Spydercos, but in my experience it takes less time to fix that than it does to drop the edge angle to my preferred range using non-powered abrasives.
Sandpaper is fine for minor edge work - I'm talking about Police 4 G-10 levels of chamfering...that melt-in-your-hand Seki goodness.

Besides, even if sandpaper can take the bevels to Seki-levels of depth, the amount of hazardous G-10 particulates it would generate (even with proper PPE) would be enough to make it an unfruitful endeavor. Not to mention the risk of ruining a fine G-10 scale by shaky inexperienced hands.
I've done after market chamfering on about 20 spydercos simply by taking sandpaper to the scales for 5-10 minutes in a utility sink in my garage, with everything submerged underwater. I think you're over selling how difficult the process is.

If you look up my Native Chief threads I post before / after photos.

5 minutes with 200-300 grit sandpaper underwater and you'll have better chamfering than a P4 by a long shot.

I do agree with vivi, I can make a beautiful 5k grit chamfer on a tenacious set of scales faster than reprofiling my maxamet N5 :squinting-tongue
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

I'd be pretty hyped about a chamfered or contoured Crucarta Edgerati if that ever becomes an option. The Shaman is one of my favorite designs.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Hi Kennethsime,

The design is fairly new and where it goes will depend mostly on you. Anything is possible?
