A couple of observations on the action/stiffness. Mine was a bit stiff when I received it but after 4-6 weeks of use and hundreds of openings it has smoothed out considerably. I think that the Native is still not quite as smooth as the Delica but there are several factors that might cause that. First of all, the Native has a slightly different cam shape that seems to cause a bit more resistance at it's widest point. It also has a bit more lock bar tension than my Delica. Personally I am ok with this because it gives me even more confidence in the lockup. I feel like the Golden backlocks are the best in the business. The Native also has a thicker blade and lockbar so there is a larger contact area when opening/closing. I guess it could also have something to do with the finish on the surfaces and that's why it has smoothed out over time?

At any rate, after over a month of use mine has become plenty smooth and the lockup is still "bank vault" tight with no play in any direction. I should also note that there is still ZERO sign of corrosion anywhere on the knife. This knife is a serious performer and fully deserving of the "Salt" moniker.

i prefer the spoon clip, but that black handle looks so much nicer. this knife badly needs an all black treatment.

Fresh in. I’m excited to test out LC200N. I’m even more excited for the Pacific Salt 2 now. I noticed the knife is the exact size of the apple bananas sitting on my counter.

PS: I like the way this photo turned out. I may submit it for the calendar contest next year.

is the lc200n steel rust proof like h1? Being as it is in the salt series? I was thinking about one but not sure about the steel.

It is. I’ve had mine soaking in saltwater and fish blood for over a month now with zero corrosion.

Anybody else trying to open and close their brand new native salt in order to break in and it just isn't cutting it? It seems that it is actually making it worse somehow... It is making a grinding metal to metal contact sound and is also squeaking like crazy when I open and close it. The thing that I am really worried about is the space between the tang and lockbar is scratching up from the friction of opening and closing. I hope this isn't affecting the lc200n corrosion rust proof in anyway.. Would really like to hear what others experiences are and any advice would be great.. This is my first spyderco and I am freaking out that I am ruining it by trying to break it in as other threads have suggested with their natives...

If I do end up buying one of these (waiting until after Christmas to see what the wife got me), I’m going to have to do something about the yellow. I don’t know that I’ll go with buying the Maxamet version to do a swap, but something is going to have to happen with the scales.

Yep, love the grey scales and the wire clip! Makes me really want an LC200N Chap LW Salt! And I still want some blacked out Native LW Salts and DFly2 Salts. These would cover my small knife basis pretty well.

I know that sounds ludicrous but why does it look like that? I’m not saying it looks bad (or good), just that I’ve never seen that finish before and am curious to know more.

i’ve only had mine for a day, but i don’t have any scratches yet from the pivot, which the df2 salt developed fairly quickly.

the blades are satin. maybe what you are seeing is different angles in the light.

Hey LC, Lc200n is FAR more scratch resistant than H1.

At the risk of angering the warranty gods, I have some observations from having had mine apart (more than once). Here’s what I’ve found. First, from what I can tell, and owing to material design related to the corrosion proofing the ENTIRE knife, the lock bar spring is stiffer than my other Native in S35VN. It’s aparant in the overall stiffness of the lock itself. Not a bad thing... Just a thing. Now for the real issue.

The underside of the lock bar itself, where the spring contacts it.. at least on my two, (SE & PE) are/were machined very rough. There were machining grinds running laterally (side to side) where the edge of the spring touched. As the spring was moving through it’s range of motion, the sharp edge of the spring was catching those machining marks. On mine, that was creating the ‘squeaking’ sensation. Once those surfaces were smoothed out, the catching/squeaking thing went away. I also smoothed the contact edge of the spring itself. That place got some Froglube.

My PE one had a pronounced groove right at the spot where the spring did most of its business. The SE wasn’t as bad. Took maybe 10 minutes to smooth them both out with ultra fine sandpaper (up to 7000 grit).

Now both of them are smooth. The spring tension makes them both ‘stiffer’ than my non-salt Native, but again, I’m sure that’s due to the choice of materials needed to make even the lock bar rust proof.

All that being said, I love my two Salts and think Spyderco has a true gem here. I don’t think the design will ever lend itself to being flickable like a PM2. It’s not that knife. But for its intended use, it’s perfect. Had I not accelerated the smoothing out with some handwork, I suspect I would have experienced what Lance discovered... it would have just smoothed itself out from use.

And about the blade color... it’s unique and very cool. It’s Christmas morning and today I get to officially ‘have them’. It’s been killing me to work with them and then box them back up.

I hope my observations help. I never considered the issue something worthy of sending back. I expected them to be tight when new. I can’t wait to get out on the kayak with both of them in my pocket.
