English may not be my first language but even here, gentlemen are not in the habit of making promises that you can have no control over of keeping.
read #2 and maybe you'll get it.
If #1 applied I would have made a declaration. Go look that one up if you still don't understand.
I may not be an english major. But, I know what my words and meaning of those words are.

What if? What if it doesn't break in you mean? Then, it wasn't used...

You made a promise, how you gonna keep it? Simple as that.

Number 2 BTW, uses promise as a noun. You used yours as a verb. :p

But whatever... I'm just used to people making promises that they can keep. We here don't usually make assurances that we have no control over. I dunno how it is with you. Maybe you are used to not keeping your promises...

Some interesting english lessons here. Remember shiny footprints and all.

Anyway, I will call Spyderco customer service at some point. It is frustrating though as it feels like I just bought a BMW that has brakes that don't work.

No guarantees from me, but mine had shallow lockup when new. After some use it has settled in nicely.

I got mine a couple days ago, the fit and finish is fine to me. The jimping is a little flawed and functional, but more than my money's worth for what knifeworks was charging. Lockup is at 40%, which is where I want it to be.

if using the knife and allowing it to break in naturally is not an option. You could loosen all the screws and tweak the scales. that should do it. No promises this time in fear of some troll that thinks I'm entering into a binding contract on this forum. Lol
If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say tweaking the scales pm me and I'll explain.

The best thing would probably be to send the knife in to Spyderco for them to make the assessment of whether your lock is safe or not. I would not recommend risking your fingers based upon some internet wannabe expert's assurances.

Exactly, if there is any doubt at all send it in. :)

Agree. The Military should not need any break-in for safe lockup (nor should it need user tweaking). Mistakes happen, and everyone hates it when they do, but mistakes like this need to be fixed, not fudged. :spyder:

Mine came today!

In light of some of the reported issues, I feel almost embarrassed to say that mine is close to perfect.

Seems like Golden sharpened their "jimping machine" before they made this one.

Blade is centered, and lock-up is loud and solid and at 50%.

Happy!
Hans

It doesn't take an expert to figure out that when you move one part one way and another part the other way you change the lock up of the knife. I actually thought this was common knowledge amongst the knife community.

But yeah if spending 10 minutes performing a relatively simple repair is to much for you, don't do it. Much better to spend the money for shipping and wait out the 2 weeks.

My regular production millies don't seem to have any of the problems mentioned in this thread, but now I am worried about being on the "seconds" list for this knife. If I get one, I hope it is a good, safe, functional specimen.

I think what you see is the 'internet forum' effect. The number of knives with issues is a very small percentage of the production run. I would not be worried.

My two are fine, a little variance in the edges and one locks up a hair earlier with more clack sound when the liner locks open. I can't convince myself to carry one yet because my plain s30v Millie fills my knife needs just fine.

As further encouragement, my older son (who lives on the other side of the country) and I both ordered two, and all four are completely perfect. The lockup is early, but safe. Other than that, nothing to say other than "perfect." :)

The only reason I tinkered with mine was because the pivot was tight (as I requested for shipping safely to the UK) but the fit and finish was perfect. I'm chuffed to bits with it.
