WOW! the pics are so amazing. thanks so much Wouter for posting these!

I love the balance.... the design is so unique and eye catching.. :D

Wouter, I see that these are listed as 'prototypes' but on most of the ones you've shown you stated some sort of release date. Will these prototypes all surface on dealer shelves? :) If you're permitted to comment to us... please! :p :D hehe

The Native really needs a swedge, I hope it comes back for the FRN version at least. The Grasshopper is another must have. That Delica really does nothing for me. The handle is what loses points for me, just too much going there. The blade looks great.

How many days are you going spread the photos over Wouter? We're hungry for more!

I hope people don't like the Delica too much and I can get one for a deep discount, pure sex that knife is... :)

+1
Absolutely love the blade on Matriarch. Native4 also is very interesting. I love no swedge and jimpings.

lol i cant see a Spyderco like that going for more than 500 bucks, i think the 25th anniversary went for 350 and it came with a wooden box,?, if im wrong and the price is really that high, im agreeing with you, like i said i might have to sell some Spydies to manage that one, especially right now

Hooray for the wire clip! This is one of the better innovations from Spyderco in a while, even if it doesn't cut anything. Big thumbs-up!!!
Mr Blonde wrote:I have to stop here for today, but I decided to stop with a nice surprise (at least to me). This is a Manix 2 with a clear FRN Handle. The Manix has gone through quite an evolution, and it’s still evolving. The original goal was to create a ‘ small’ tough and do-all folder. The original Mini Manix was too heavy for most users. The Manix 2 has incorporated some major refinements: less weight, bigger lanyard hole, the lock (and opening action). This FRN version is a lightweight alternative to the Manix 2.

This prototype was a tiny bit ‘squeaky’ in the handle, when it was tightly gripped, but I’m sure that will be solved in the production version. This handle turns the tank-like regular Manix 2 into a lightweight. It feels very light in the hand with all the heft going to the blade. The see-through is a cool feature. It turns a ‘tactical folder’ into a techno-gizmo and conversation piece. The ergos were very nice. FRN is always softer to the touch than G10 slabs and steel liners, and this FRN handle was no exception to the rule. According to Eric this FRN Manix 2 won’t be as strong as the regular model, but not by much.

To be continued...

Dang Wouter, like the Balance and the translucent Manix weren't enough, now you come with that Delica! There goes my budget... (sigh) Do you still have more goodies under your hat to show? ;)

One of the most elegant prototypes on the show was the Caly 3.5: a somewhat bigger Caly 3 with a blade that's roughly 1/2" longer. It was lovely.

Caly 3.5

Post by Mr Blonde »

Another pleasant surprise was the Caly 3.5 prototype, a Caly 3 with a 3,5 inch blade. I realize 0.5 inch is not a huge difference compared to the Caly 3, but the heft and feel of the knife is definitely different. For me, a 3,5 inch blade is just right for all my cutting chores. The materials and country of origin are the same as with the Caly 3. I liked it, kind of a more slender Stretch 2, but with a ‘bigger’ (wider) blade. This one is going on my wish list.
