Hey RIOT and Fairlane, you two seem to be somewhat of delica authorities around here so I figure you two would probably be the right people to ask. I'm thinking about selling my Native I PE to buy a D4 Wave instead. I'm thinking that, with the screw construction (opening on my Native is somewhat rough although my first Native opened smoother - this one isn't finished quite as nice but hey, its a $40 knife), the SS liners, and the wave opening, this knife will be a nice step up in quality. I was really thinking about goin with either a G-10 Delica, a Caly 3 or a Sage but I think I would like something without a finger choil this time and the G-10 Delica is mighty expensive. Plus the wave opening is cool. Would you guys reccommend taking this route of action and going with the D4W? (speaking in terms of EDC obviously). I also like the looks of the SS D4 but I think it might be slightly heavy for EDC... Can you guys give an opinion? Thanks!

JustAn,
ill be the 1st to say im not the most educated spyder collector at all, in fact i cant even call myself a collector yet in my eyes, i recently just started spending $$ on all this and its fun plus addicting.
my honest opinion about the delica though is: i prefer the FRN D4 over any of them, the g10 is stiff in my eyes and heavier, also the g10 against the pocket clip is tuff to deploy, the FRN to me is perfect, so perfect that i cant figure out how Spyderco can top it in the future?
Spyder,
I started buying as many Spyderco's as i could and it was a never ending battle so recently i dedicated my search to Delicas, the down side of it all is i stopped buying all the other knives and only buy Delicas now, but the hunt of something new in a collection is so much more than a knive you just havent bought.

Billy, nice D4s! that FFG blade on the wave looks sick, quick question though, in comparison between the D4W and the G-10 D4, is the G10 D4 noticably thicker / heavier or not really? I'm trying to decide which native-replacer to buy and was thinking go with the D4W over the more expensive and, as RIOT puts it, less practical G-10 D4, but there are just so many great knives by this company and so little money in my budget!
also, if you could, could you take a pic clip side down and maybe a top pic of the G-10 and regular (non FFG) PE Delica? if ya cant no biggie

Thanks for the kind words. As for weight, there is a difference, but it's not really noticeable in the pocket. I kind of like the extra heft of the G-10 version in the hand. I think the FFG blade and G-10 on the latest D4 is a really, really nice combo and worth every penny. It's a bit classier than the FRN models and the blade grind makes it a better slicer. BUT, for about the same money as the FG G-10 D4, you can buy a waved D4 and send it to Tom Krein for his FFG treatment and get a lightweight, waved-opening pocket scalpel. :D
I will work on getting the pics you wanted over the weekend unless someone else already has them and would like to share... :)
