Thanks to all of you for your kind 'Welcome'. I've been periodically reading here for over two years now. I've learned a lot from you guys and have become helplessly addicted to Spyderco. I'm trying to save up for the next big one when it becomes available - the Pikal. :spyder:

It is one of my EDC clips or if you search here I called it the QDC: Quick Draw Clip. I epoxied a Glow in the dark disk to it so I can see it in the dark. After polishing the clip of all the black I blued them w/ gun blue...JSmith has one I sent him. I'd liketo see how he likes it, He never told me though.

Any suggestions on what the best method/kit for bluing is. You've got me thinking about doing a byrd.

Instead of blueing, I would be cool to have a bryd dipped in NP3...The NP3 process is an evolution of autocatalytic (Electroless) nickel plating. Electroless nickel is a time proven technology that accurately deposits a hard corrosion resistant nickel phosphorus onto metal. One of the greatest attributes of this technology is no matter how complex the shape, the coating thickness remains constant. This type of accuracy is not possible with conventional electrolytic plating.

Plating is accomplished by using reducing agents in the bath. Sodium hypophosphite fuels the reduction reaction to deposit the nickel along with the co-deposition of small amounts of phosphorus. The phosphorus enhances the nickel's corrosion resistance by forming a thin tarnish film and gives a deposited hardness ranging from Rc 35-50. Heat treatment can increase hardnesses into the Rc 68-70 range.

With NP3, PTFE is introduced into the solution with a blend of surfactants and other chemicals which enable the PTFE to be co-deposited with the nickel. This composition incorporates approximately 25 volume percent of PTFE into the nickel matrix. Unlike other nickel/PTFE products, NP3 is a true composite. ...Doc

Yeah, but it would be cool. :D Besides, I think we have all passed the point that what we are doing/collecting makes sense monetarily. It is just a matter of how much or how little sense you can afford to lose.

Gonna have to agree with Rom831, would be really cool...on the plus side you would never have to lube it and you could fingerprint it all you want without worrying about corrosion...might even be cooler to use NP3 on one of the Stainless Spyderco's....Doc

What did you use for whipping. It looks like thin stuff.

I've used spectra thread for whipping before, it's extremely strong, and can be woven like a lanyard to increase it's strength. It's inexpensive and can be found on ebay.
