Rescue 93mm

#1

Post by knifeman63 »

Hi guys and gals! I just ordered a blue Rescue 93mm yesterday, and I am looking for feedback that anyone has that owns/carries this model spydie. I am not in EMT or law enforcement, but this knife has intrigued me for some time so I finally broke down and ordered one! I think the sheepfoot style blade with the plain edged tip will be a handy utility style knife, plus the cutout on the top of the blade just looks cool! I had told myself no more knives until the Para-Military comes out but I got tired of waiting(good excuse anyway!) Thanks in advance and Peace to all!

knifeman63,
I purchased one of these when they first came out. The VG-10 was very sharp and resharpened up well. Plus very well put together. I tried using it as a utility knife and it was too large a blade for me. I didn't end up using the PE tip for anything specific. After using it I felt it just wasn't the right 'fit' for me. I even used it for cutting shingles. Ever seen asphalt clog up serrations, Yuk!
I also like the sheepsfoot style blade. My first one was a WMO Q. I'm thinking of checking out a regular rescue for size, but like you anxious awaiting the paramilitary.

I have owned an original rescue for about 15 years and it has performed great. I work for a fire department and have beat the poo out of the thing yet it sharpens up and keeps on going. It has cut seatbelts, aluminium skin on light aircraft, sheetrock, clothing, rope, you name it. The only problem I ever had was the clipit handleb roke off. It was the old style, molded on the handle. Spyderco screwed a replacement on it free of charge. I am sure you will be pleased with your knife. I carry mine on the job every day.

Welcome to the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Forum, jander1414.

I never used a Rescue 93mm, but I have a d'Allara Rescue. It's razorsharp and is built like a tank. I am not in EMT, but I can very well imagine that Spyderco's rescue-models do the job very well.

I've used various Rescue knives for many years. I think the sheepfoot-style blade is the best for all around utility work. I've used mine to cut all kinds of building materials, including sheetrock. Like Jander1414, my first one had a molded plastic clip, which also broke off. I used my company's $100,000 CNC milling machine to make a replacement clip and to drill and tap for new screw holes. I don't have that job anymore, but I still have the knife. It resides permanently in the cupholder of my Chevy pickup.
