I submitted this idea to Spyderco like 9 years ago. At the time they said there was no market for a small hawkbill. Maybe now is the time! I mean they made a ladybug hawkbill...

The G-10 Dragonfly Hawkbill posted by the OP was exactly what I wanted to see in a Dfly Hawk. Lets see if we can get some momentum behind this again.

I would have to get one or two, but would prefer serrations on that baby.

This is an awesome idea... Got my first Dragonfly just a few days ago ( thread here ) and quite enjoying it.

Would love to see a Hawkbill option...

Any word on whether this is in the works?

Thanks!

OK now we're talking :) Because to me a Hawkbill has such limited duties in plain edge. It's definitely one blade design where Spyderedge just gives you so much more capability and makes in ideal for many more cutting jobs.

It's not by coincidence that 95% of every Hawkbill that Spyderco sells is in Spyderedge. If you don't believe it just go out and try to find a plain edged Harpy>> ther're so rare they are actually considered a serious collector's piece and have been for some time.

It truly shattered my heart that when they finally released the Superhawk they only made in available in plain edge>> I was speehless and devastated

Yeah I bet a Spyderedge, Dragonfly style/sized hawkbill would be a sales giant>> truly as popular as the Dragonfly has become over the past 5 years and especially with the re-surgence of popularity it's enjoyed in the H-1 Salt Series I bet it would probably outsell the Harpy 4 to 1>> and the Harpy is their iconic Hawkbill with all things considered. Truly this could be a great idea>> but I would like to see the Dragonfly Hawkbill in the H-1 Salt Series because the Dragonfly has seemed to have taken on a new life and an upsurge in popularity since it's been in the H-1 Salt Series. Yeah I think we're on the same page and I hope it's considered

Bring out an H-1 Hawkbill'd Dragonfly in full spyderedge and I'll pretty much only ever have to carry Dragonflies, lol. I'd also be interested in an FRN Harpy sprint run (is this too similar to the Tasman Salt?).
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

There may be some enthusiast bias in your statements. I've never seen a Dragonfly in the wild, much less a Harpy. And the mass market has definitely shifted to plain edge. Strange but true.

I think I will EDC my Harpy today :).

Greetings Zhyla :) I don't think that my personal SE bias is applicable here and let me tell you all why. Now you are very much correct in saying that Spyderco is shifting more to plain edges>> won't argue that for a second even though I would like to see the momentum shift in the other direction in most of their models especially.

But in the Hawkbill Sector there has always been a lot more Spyderedged Hawkbills than there are plain edged Hawkbills. OK take the classic Spyderhawk for example>> Let's say that I send you on a mission to find a serrated and a plain edged vintage early 2000s VG-10 Spyderhawk>> I can assure you that you will find about 20 SE VG-10 Spyderhawks to every one PE, VG-10 Spyderhawk>> actually if you find a blue handled VG-10 PE Spyderhawk new or used; you sir have one super collector's piece.

My point being that in several Hawkbill models the PE is usually the one that's hard to find with the exception of the Superhawk because they only made that one in PE  . But it only stands to reason that if some really cool concept like an H-1 Dragonfly Hawkbill were to come to fruition I'm 99% sure that the Spyderedged Dragonfly Hawkbill would outsell it's PE counterpart probably by 10 to 1 I'm sure of it. Especially in the H-1 Salt Series that claims their Spyderedges with H-1 blade steel to be superior in SE. But I do want it offered in PE because I would be interested in owning both of them.

Would the handle of the Lava fit the Dragonfly Hawk better? I'm in for any kind of Dragonfly shape in H1.

That's an interesting thought>> but what just hit me like a bolt of lightning is why not a solid G-10 handle like the Dodo handle. Because look at the unusually designed blade it accomodates??? Not to mention it would be like a mini-tank with a solid G-10 folder>> and the ball bearing lock wouldn't hurt my feelings any at all.

Don't get me wrong because I like Chad's Lava handle but for a Hawkbill I think the Dodo handle would work better IMO.

The more I think about a Dragonfly hawkbill the more it grows on me.
