Is the black version limited production? I thought I read that somewhere.

I remember it being mentioned as a sprint and not regular stock.
If that is indeed the case, then yes, it'll be limited to a certain number of knives.
I'd figure around a 1000 will be made ;)

A wolf has teeth.
An eagle has talons.
We, have Spyderco.

It's listed in the new 2015 product guide. Doesn't that mean it's a standard production model?

I don't remember any mention of it being limited. But I'd like to know for sure, since I definitely plan to get one at some point.

It is regular production.
There is nothing more important than this one day.

I was actually more excited at the proto-pic (if you look on Spyderco.com) than the full blacked-out version that seems to have hit the shelves. :(

Not sure what you mean. Is it the difference in the black tone?

The only proto pics I can find are the blue and green version.

I see what you mean now. I actually prefer the blacker version.

I wonder if that's just a result of the lighting? Even one of the BHQ pics shows a difference in shade.

My black Dog Tag arrived this morning, and it's a nice little (tiny little) knife. Here are some pics...

Image

Image

I know how big an actual dog tag is, but this knife still kind of surprised me by just how small it really is. Here it is next to a gigantic looking Delica and Dragonfly...

Image

And next to some other very small Spydercos. Left to right, the Ladybug, Bug, Dog Tag, Balance, and Equilibrium.

Image

Blerv, there actually is a very slight difference in the black coloring. Each of the metals is a slightly different shade, but it's not really obvious unless you look for it.

I still haven't decided how I'm going to use this little knife yet. Watch pocket probably. Overall I like it.

Thanks for the comparison photos. Actually I was wondering the differences between the balance and the equilibrium too so you've helped me there.

From what I read, there is no "true black" method that sticks to titanium. You can't black anodize it, but you can dark anodize it. I'm not too sure about a coating that sticks to titanium, but the stuff that works best with steel I don't think works well with titanium.

All I can say is that the black dog tag looks really slick and will be my first spyderco of 2015. Unless some sprint hits Canada first.

Very cool everyone :D. Still on the fence between the blue/grey and black one! I do love these little non-lockers.

The black dog tags are available at warriors and wonders for my fellow Canadians looking to buy locally.
