Pro-Grip Opinions...
I really love my mouse(mice; I have 3 of them!), but sometimes wished that it was just a little bigger. Then I handled a SS pro-grip and this really looked and felt to me like a bigger mouse. I bought it and am very happy with it. Just ordered 2 more since they are discontinued for 2004. I would probably overlooked this model if I hadn't handled it. So now mousy has a big brother, and all is well. But what do you folks think of the pro-grip(SS or FRN)? I don't see this knife discussed much and would love to hear other opinions.
Welcome to the forum.
When i was choosing my first I decided that the SS Pro-grip was for me. Unfortunately the dealer didn't have one so I got a Native (which is my current fave). I got an FRN Pro-grip shortly after and quite like it but it is used as a bit of a beater. The steel is good (8A) as it takes and holds a good edge but I'm not a fan of CE.
My main problem is with the clip, integral FRN clips don't agree with me. The Kraton pad underneath it provides good grip but perhaps a little too much for my liking.
The Kraton in the handle feels good and grippy and the handle is a comfortable size and shape.
I'm afraid I haven't handled the SS version. From what I know of it I think it would be a great little knife to use. The clip is a great improvement over the FRN one and the blade steel is great (ATS-55). If a PE version presented itself I would be a very happy chap.

I've been carrying a ss pe Pro-Grip now for quite awhile and it is my favorite model along with the old Hunter version that I carry too.
As mentioned by the others, I don't care for the Kraton insert on the clip either so I switched that out with a regular one. Problem solved.
I recently sent one of my Pro-Grips off to Ron in South Carolina and he replaced the Kraton insert on the handle with a CF insert which came out nice....I like it and recommend him...he does other Spyderco mods as well if you're interested.
I was disapponted the model was discontinued so I've been stocking up on them as well so I have enough to last. Maybe the will be back sometime in the future.

Hi Hotpockets, welcome!
My Pro-Grip (SS+kraton) and Mouse are in the mail as we speak. I already have an FRN (PE), and an 'Ironstone Hunter' (CE), which is an SS Pro-Grip without the kraton insert, or a C03 Hunter with a pro-grip blade.
They're great knives!

Thank you all for your fine welcome and opinions! Joe58-Glad someone else is as fond of this model as I am. I was thinking of trying to mod the handle myself with G-10. I might contact Ron if your could post or send me his e-mail. Ted- I'm sure you'll love the mouse & pro-grip; both great knives. Great site, by the way. CHUX-I've always liked the spur! I'll keep an eye out for it's release.

Ron posts here as well...SC Rebel...something like that I think...anyways, his email would be sc_rebel1857@yahoo.com.
I'm looking forward to the Spur run also. I'm hoping they offer a PE version too besides just the combo edge.
take care...Joe

There seems to be a Pro-Grip SS in PlainEdge over here! VG-10 though...
