I have an ats-55 SE model in my collection, carried it in a fixed spot of left/front for over a year. Then a caught the table at work enough times and rotated the clip... it's waiting to go back for work.
Just used my calypso jr lt SE this weekend, went thought a 3/4" branch in one stroke... I had used my ss cricket, but only for light work, so I didn't have an idea how vg-10 se proformed...
if you want something that takes 10-12 strokes every 3-4 months of daily use... then ats-55... if you want something thats a folding chainsaw... vg-10.
if PE, both steels can be made to proform close to the same, with a small edge given to vg-10 in the polish category.
