What knife did you let slip through your fingers?

No, not slip through your fingers and slice you...

What knife did you really want but just kept putting it off until it was too late?

I really wanted a Microtech LCC MA with OD canvas micarta & black coated PE blade. I never bought it and now am having a hard time finding one. I've seen several on websites, but when I call, it's not really in stock. I did find one, but I'm not sure about the vendor. They also want a pretty penny for it.

Some I wanted, but losing them didn't drive me nuts: A blue Bob Lum Chinese, Elishewitz Omega, Grey Matriarch.

There are some that I'm playing a waiting game with. These are still around, but have been discontinued, are limited, etc:

Lum Tanto folder, Blue Native, BM 705 Aluminum/G10, Emerson SOFCK.

My closest call was my Elishewitz Stryker.

So, what about you? What did you let slip completely away?

aloha jbake,

PE aluminum w/ kraton insert Civi...****. A cop beat me to it on the day i had the moola for it. I see a lot of Police, SS Enduras or delicas(hard to tell while driving) in the "traffic cops" and the sheriff's pockets as they come to the facility to drop off new admits, but no Civi carrying LEO yet...

BTW, how's your Matriarch doing? my co-worker got a little TOO comfortable w/ mine and the next thing I know...blood on the control station floor...and he just "grazed' the SE! I have a PE Stryker, doing a life sentence in my collection drawer!

Take care!

Wouldn't have minded being able to get a PE versions of SS Native and SS Pro-grip. Not desperately upset though, already have more Spydies than I need, not that that is going to stop me buying more (can you say addict).

One of my friends was handling a Matriarch and released the lock to flick it closed, as he does with his . However, the Matriarch is longer and heavier than his EDC and so the blade travelled further than he expected. No scream of pain or colourful cursing, just "whoops". He just felt a light tap on his knuckle but there was blood dripping off his hand already. Interesting shape cut, you could see where the teeth were along the wound. I was sympathetic and said 'I told you so', then went and got the NGK plasters.

A "Q" - I looked at one in a store and picked a FRN Delica instead. The Delica was a better choice for EDC but I could have gotten one any time. Who knew the Q's would be discontinued and become a collectors item.

A local sporting goods store went out of business a few years back and the Q's on clearance (it was their only Spydies left)-now seeing what their worth I could-and do-kick myself for not picking one up

Fist time I went to the knife shop in Japan they had a fairly rare "R" model I should have purchased. I did buy a Q instead though, which was a great deal.

Hey Daywalker,
My Matriarch is doing fine. I was out of town on business all last week and it was the knife I kept on me once I got back to the hotel room (3" carry limit in that city, so I had a little blue delica with me during day and out on the town at night). It's a big scary blade and I would not want it closing on any part of me.

Re: that Civie that got away, check this out:

It's a PE tuffram Civie. Second one I've seen on Ebay in the last couple of months. I think the last one went for $270, but I can't remember for sure.

Mahalo jbake!

Been carrying my Matri ED...DO use it, although there are the tip concerns...it's SO sharp, it just "Glides" through everything anyway, so i don't foresee tip damage unless I run into an ex-inmate w/ a grudge or something!

thanks again for the Civi info! take care!

PS: Blue delica? DROOOOOL...

Most missed knife I've traded away was my very last swap with my friend Gadi Billous before his tragic death a PE Viele.
The good news is it went to another great friend of mine Jeff/1911 and it may be coming home soon
I also swapped away a SS Harpy and by thursday will have another.
I trade alot mostly just to play with new stuff but I've came to the conclusion that some of mine are meant to stay put. Ron

NGK has a couple of 'blues' running around in its limited edition and its discontinued section. Looks like a Native in one of them...

I got a Lum Chinese folder and a Lum folding tanto from the SFO at rediculous prices. Why didn't I get 2 each at that price? I did manage to get 2 Merlins but they aren't as desireable as the ones previously mentioned.

Nothing too fancy, but I missed bidding on a G10 Harpy a few weeks back (unless I'm mistaken, it's the one Dr. Lector uses in Hannibal). I picked up a stainless steel Harpy instead, and must say that I'm thoroughly amazed with it. It's the single coolest blade I've ever handled, and as I'm sure you're all well aware, its blade redefines "sharp." I'm almost afraid to manipulate the thing like I do my other knives.

Anyway, I'll be sure to use Buy it Now next time. I don't want to miss out again.
