Caswell innovations from several years ago
Has any research been done on these locking and pivot systems to test viability in a production collaboration?

Interesting locking mechanism and the fixed blade knives there look well-made.
Re: Caswell innovations from several years ago
Yeah, I don't care for the design of the knife shown but a clip that disappears when the blade opens is a pretty cool feature. Also, having a pivot that functions as a stand off giving more strength to the entire knife yet still be adjusted for centering and ease of opening is pretty innovative.

Here's a run down. I can definitely see some company doing a collaboration with this guy. I hope it could be spyderco.

Looks aside, that's a pretty slick mechanism.
Re: Caswell innovations from several years ago
That is really cool. I don't completely care for how it clips, but I love the idea of a disappearing clip. I may even be able to live with that design if it just had a round hole instead of a thumb stud. The handle could be more ergonomic, but I could probably live with that blade shape, it's kinda cool.

We spoke with him a few years ago. He never got back to us.

Man, if those were my inventions and they were patented I'd be all over a licensing deal with Spyderco. What better way to get my name out to the general public and promote my own work and also work with a top knife manufacturer to see my products in the hands of a lot of people? I wonder now that it's several years old and still relatively unknown if he'd still blow off a company that pulls as much weight as spyderco. I bet he'd be a rich, or at least fairly well off, man by now had he collaborated with you guys.

Hi Bodog,
Few collaborators get rich. Blackie Collins was fortunate in his association with Pete Gerber which raised his status (well deserved), but most collaborators add to their income with royalties. Nice, but not the lottery.
I thought he said he was thinking about working with another company.

Ken Onion has probably made more money than any other contemporary designer/maker/collaborator than all others in the last 40 years combined. :D The exceptions perhaps being those individuals who own/owned their own companies.

Those are the patents still applicable on the design.
