Street Bowie Sprint

#1

Post by Buffalohump »

I'd like to gauge interest in a sprint run of the Street Bowie. I know the Street Beat is very popular and I think the Street Bowie is an awesome 'big brother' of this cool little knife but I would love to see it in a similar upgraded handle material (green or maroon linen micarta would be splendid) and in a great steel like, I dunno... S30V or even CPM-3V or CruWear. With a satin finish!

What say ye Spyder freaks? Anyone else like to see a sprint of the Street Bowie? :)

While an upgraded steel is possible, I'm not sure how feasible a new handle would be. The Street Bowie appears to have a molded handle, so changing it to one you would attach is a major change, which doesn't seem to be consistent with the concept of a sprint run. Also, it seems Spyderco has moved past micarta to G10 and CF.

I was thinking of something like the Street Beat handle... only bigger.

I know, but it's a matter of construction. The beat handles are attached, the bowie handles are molded. The beat is full tang, the bowie is not. Sprints tend to be: same pattern, different materials. It's simple to use blue peel-ply g10 in place of black. It's not simple to use micarta in place of molded FRN. I'm not saying any of this is a bad idea, I'm just pointing out manufacturing realities.

I actually think you'd have more traction requesting a Street Beat XL. Either way, you're talking about a new model, not a sprint.
