What was your first Spyderco
Re: What was your first Spyderco
Mine was a stainless left handed Police but it was my second, an original Native, that gave me the bug, or is it a spyder?!
Still have both.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
This subject comes up about every six months or so on this great forum>> but I don't mind answering it again. My very first Spyderco blade ever is one I got back in 1995 at a local gun show. My first Spyder was the stainless handled, Spyderedged MARINER model. To me it took serrations to a much higher level than I had ever experienced before. It wasn't long after that that I obtained a JD Smith and a big Calypso model too. The Spyders out of the mid to late 90s were truly some great older models.
By the way my first Spyder which was the MARINER model had GIN-1 blade steel and that truly goes back a few days,. For Spyderedges I thought GIN-1 was a fairly decent steel. It's amazing to me how many guys got their first Spyders back in the 90s.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
Welcome to the forum.
My first was a stainless handle combo edge and I am not sure what model it is. Look forward to finding out when I get home. Did not like the stainless handles because of how they show scratches and the weight of them. Not a fan of combo edges but liked the Spydie hole. Bought it about 10 years ago and it has been collecting a lot of dust for the most part.
Then one day I saw a Millie on the internet and found this forum. Bought and love the Millie, have a Para 2 and Dragonfly 2 one the way. Pretty much a wrap for me now and even though I said no more Spydies till Christmas the Manix 2 LW 110V is in stock again.

On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.
Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

Not enough can be said for the iconic POLICE model. The POLICE model was also one of my first 10 Spyders I first owned in the 90s. Mine was also a serrated/Spyderedged models. I believe my first POLICE was an ATS-55 version. The Police model is like the Military model you just can't go wrong with it.Mr Blonde wrote:A full SE Police with stainless steel handle
Many of the Spyders I obtained in the mid to late 90s were some of my most beloved. I've said it before and I'll repeat it>> I do believe that thee Golden Era Of Spyders in my opinion was 1998-2003. The models made during that era are the time tested best in my opinion>> certainly from a collector standpoint anyway. Great Thread

Like screwdriver, my first Spyderco was the same Delica as his, but mine was blue. Anyone remember what year the clips were molded into the handle?

The sabre ground Manix 2 was my first Spyderco. A great knife that although I don't carry as often now still holds a special place in my heart.
Estne Spyderco in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre?

Re: What was your first Spyderco
Tenacious. But it quickly went to a Delica, then a PM2, then a...you get the idea. :o
Re: What was your first Spyderco
Another SE Delica 1 some time in the early 90s. Got carried regularly and used hard until some time around 2003/4. Then the wheels fell off when I discovered on line knife shops in addition to my dealer in Johannesburg. It's been a slide downward since then and that particular Delica has been retired to an easy life of being a sentimental collectors item telling my other Spydies (now close to 100) stories of the "good old days".
Re: What was your first Spyderco
My first was the plain edge, saber grind, black FRN Delica 4. To be honest I wasn't really impressed... Sold it off and bought a Caly 3, Dragonfly, a few Enduras and a few ladybugs.
Now they are all gone except one. A brand new Delica plain edge. I guess you need to carry this knife for a while to appreciate it. Hope to get the ffg version soon. And the trainer! :)

Persistence. Bought it used on EBay. Started me on my current addiction. I guess I could be addicted to worse stuff.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
My first was a Native LW. As soon as I held it I had to have it. It was the most comfortable knife I had ever held. When I left the store that day I knew I was in trouble.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
This was my first Spyderco, Sage 1.

Re: What was your first Spyderco
First was an all black Tenacious, then I wanted upgraded blade steel and got a Millie...2 years and 70 spydies later, my wish list is longer than ever..only been on forum a few weeks, but I can see this addiction doesn't get better with time.
Re: What was your first Spyderco
SS SE Economy (???).. Smaller than a Delica and has the clip stamped out of the rear handle.. John :)
