dodo clip qualms

#1

Post by mystillwater »

i'm getting a little frustrated. i've broken 2 clips on my dodo already in less than 2 months. one i broke doing something stupid (trying to bend it to give my pockets some relief...it broke the screw that held it in) and the second occured when the knife (while clipped in my pocket) got snagged on a carboard box while i was walking and snapped the screw. again. the dodo is such a hard use knife with such a lightweight clip. it's a bummer because otherwise it would be a 10 in my book, but, due to it's lack of resilience i think i'm gonna retire it in favor of my benchmade griptilian. is can't hold an edge for more than a day but at least its clip hasn't fallen off.

Thats the problem I have with wire clips,they seem like they catch on things easier than the standard clip.

Sacrilege, Heresy!!! Retire the Dodo for a BM Griptilian???? Alas, give the mighty Dodo another chance.
Actually I just tuck the Dodo right in my pocket and just forego(sp) the clip. Solves the wire clip issue Take Care and sorry to hear of your Dodo frustrations!

i hear ya. i wish it was as easy as dropping it in my pocket but in my line of work i need to be able to get to it in a hurry. sometimes with my hands full (think about that one for a second). pocket clip is a must. i know sal and the folks at spyderco could have done better on that one. the dodo is perfect for me in every other way. i even love the blue. but it looks like benchmade won on a technicality.

you could
a) keep a couple of screws at home (you seem to be breaking the screw, not the clip);

or
b) move it to a different section of your pocket that is less exposed to snagging as you move

Heck, maybe it was a freak accident: I've had mine for months and not caught it on anything, but my t-shirt is usually over the top of it.

I carry my Dodo all the time and I have no problem with the clip. Personally I rather prefer the wire clips. I like their lower profile.

I was wearing my Dodo in my left hand pocket today, caught the clip on the couch, and popped the top off the screw. I like the wire clips a lot, but they are not as sturdy as the clips on the military. Are replacement screws available?

Hey, I love to use the dodo as a EDC, however, I would prefer a clip such as that on a Tan Native...its got the brushed aluminum look to it with the spyderco logo on it. I think it would look great with the black G10 handle...might clash a lil' on the blue. Anyhow, I just thought I would put in my two cents worth...thanks!

Sometimes, if I want to keep a knife easily accessible, but out of the way, I pop it into the watch/change pocket of my trousers. It can be clipped or simply dropped in.
