S30V! My first knife from Golden.
CTS-204P Rocks!
Hi Folks!
Another vote here for the Green CTS-204P!
By Far, the best one. I even like it much enough to have 2. :D
Would put the Blue M390 on second place though. :)

I have at least two of each (user and backup). For looks and performance, it's a tie between the CF/S90V and the Green G10/204P. I flipped a coin and the 204P came up, so it's in the poll results. :spyder:

If I was able to afford the S90V/CPM154CM it would likely get my vote. That said though, I REALLY like my green CTS-204P PM2 more than most knives...in fact, between my work and after-work carry it's definitely my most carried knife. I've cut up at least a hundred rope slings of 5/8" rope, as well as lots of cardboard and it still easily slices receipt paper (And lots of other small things not worth mentioning)...it definitely outperforms any other stainless steel knife I have, and the design carries nicer than almost any I've tried. I still maintain that the best knife for the money, from ANY manufacturer, is the standard S30V PM2.

I figured some people would go with the S30V based on price or because it was there first. I am guessing it has something to do with corrosion resistance for you Surfgringo?Surfingringo wrote:I'll take s30v over any of em.
No votes for the composite S90V. Because of its high price or issues with the composite blade I wonder.
Secretly pretty happy the one I plan to buy is leading the polls. Not that it matters but its nice to get some positive feedback on your choice.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

I voted for s30v. I also have the green cts204 model but honestly, for a folder its hard to beat the overall balanced performance of s30v. I will say that the green KW model (from the second run) has the best f&f of any golden spydie I have owned. It feels like they really took their time with that run.
Btw, you know why the green model is so popular? Because KW had plenty made and sold the thing for a reasonable price so folks aren't afraid to enjoy using them. That's at least part of the reason anyway.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Oh. My. Goodness. I've never even held one of these until this arrived today.
It's funny. The Sage 1 was the first Spyderco I handled. It is an amazing knife. The Para evokes a deeper reaction in me. It's just a thing, a tool. But what a thing of beauty!

If am hoping the Para 2 is even half as good as people say. If so I expect to be pretty happy with mine.

This was how I felt about my DLC Para 2. I had a moment of poor judgement and sold it after I got my 20CP Para 2, and I've regretted it ever since. Now that I rarely carry a Para 2 (or to say that I now prefer other knives over the Para 2) I have held back from buying another one. I think the closest thing to that now would be my Manix 2 S110V.mb1 wrote:Do you believe in love at first sight? Oh. My. Goodness. I've never even held one of these until this arrived today.

Manix 2 110V oh how I love thee.
Are regular production knives allowed to be grail knives? All I know for sure is everything will be dropped to buy one if they ever come back in stock.
Back on topic poor composite S90V still got no votes. To expensive for people to really use and grow attached to I suppose.

Honestly I just don't really care for composite blades. I understand the reason, and in some applications I can see some benefit but I would much prefer a solid blade.

I am of the same mind as you. Pretty sure my incoming Superblue is going to change that though.Evil D wrote:HarleyXJGuy wrote:Manix 2 110V oh how I love thee.

I always come back to my Caly 3 when this subject comes up, and I just can't see how that knife wouldn't be way better with a solid ZDP blade instead of the composite. When I first go the knife I thought the layered steel was cool, and it is in a way, but aesthetically I'd be happier without the line down the side of the blade. If they were able to make them with a much thinner layer of the core steel so that you didn't have that line so high up the side of the blade, I'd like it more but the manufacturing process would need to be much more precise to ensure that thin layer of core steel landed dead in the center of the blade. If you made the core thin enough you could almost eliminate the line, at least to the point where it was essentially the bevel line or about the same height.HarleyXJGuy wrote:I am of the same mind as you. Re: Which Para Military 2 do you love the most?
I voted orange because it is my best and only PM2.
Re: Which Para Military 2 do you love the most?
A few thoughts on that one.HarleyXJGuy wrote:No votes for the composite S90V. Because of its high price or issues with the composite blade I wonder.
First, there were only 300, so there aren't many out there. Second, many sold for very high prices, which tends to inhibit people from using them.
Here's two more reasons I couldn't vote for this sprint. I picked up a pair of those, both in the $275-285 range, which is about half what most went for. Both have badly centered S90V cores. One is so off-center that there is essentially no S90V at the tip on one side.
In addition, both are very badly centered. One was so bad I took the blade out to check it's straightness on a machinist's straightedge. As I had guessed, that blade is noticeably warped. The other one turned out to be warped also, but not as badly. The pictures I saw on eBay all looked much better than the two I got (from different, very reputable, dealers), so I think I just lost the lottery big time on that sprint run...but in any case, not at the top of my list.

Interesting considering that m390 and CTS204P are basically the same steel made by different foundries.
The two combined currently make up 50% of the votes cast.
I really like the smurf blue but hands down dark green G10 is my favorite.

Re: Which Para Military 2 do you love the most?
I voted s30v. My camo/satin was one of my first 3 Spydies and it still sees the most use, along with my Chaparral. I also have a black/dlc as a back-up/safe queen.
I have one of the cf laminates as well, and it is a decent exemple. No warping and the edge is all s90v, only nitpick is that the lamination line is a bit high on one side. I really like the peel-ply cf, but in all honesty the cost and rarity have prevented me from using it much. If I suddenly had to sell some knives for some reason, it would go before either of my regular production versions.
I also like that blue though, if BBS ever gets another batch, I may have to pick up some m390...
