Endura saves the day! (in a small way:)

Tonight at my judo class towards the end, one of our judoka was practicing tonight's move, an armbar, and he was flipped, landed hard on his shoulder, and we believed he fractured his collarbone. My sensei, having seen quite a few injuries, wanted to take a look at it but he couldn't get to it because of his thick t shirt. He needed something to cut the shirt open and that's when I spoke up and told my sensei I had a knife. Lucky I had just sharpened it :) cut through the shirt like butter. Never needed my blade for a reason like this before, but I am always prepared. Thank you spyderco for your amazingly sharp blade. Then afterwards another judoka proceeded to show me his "amazingly high quality knife" from TAC-FORCE HA. Sorry that was mean, but after he showed me his blade, I showed him my Endura and he didn't like it very much cause it wasn't assisted. I pointed to my knife and said "quality." He pointed to his and said "quality." Then I pointed to his knife and said "china." He started to get pissed at that point and told me his friend was carrying on of those when he was jumped, and stabbed a guy through the arm. I then said "ok sure and walked away. It seemed to me he wouldn't have appreciated quality even if it was explained to him in detail. I may talk to him in the future but he seemed mad that I didn't appreciate his knife as much as he did. Now that I think about it I could have taken a tad more time to explain why his knife wasn't a very high quality blade but I still don't think he would've cared.

I don't get up in arms about other peoples knives. I just like that other people like them to.

You should have made some receipt paper confetti, and challenged him to slice receipt paper with his ;)

I don't try to convince other that my knives are "better" than theirs. Few care and most would resent it. I try to find something positive and true to say about their knives. If they want to see mine I'll show them. This soft engagement plus the condition of my knife, gets them interested, eager to know more.

when young you kinda carry the attitude "I'm right. You're wrong." when you get older you adopt a much much softer approach and encourage, not discourage. Barring that, age lets you adopt the philosophy "meh," and go about your business...

Knife intererst is like grade school. Kindergarden, 1st grade 2nd grade, etc., each grade learning more. the more you learn about knives, the better Spyderco looks. He was a beginner. Best to educate and encourage, if they have ears. Otherwise, best to just listen.

Good job to have and use your knife to solve the problem.

Yeah. If people take a real interest in knives, they'll naturally gravitate towards better and better brands and models. It's a learning process, just like anything else. Having said that, Tac-force or whatever, is a garbage gas station mystery steel knife. :D

I'm "the knife guy" on a 500 man fire dept. I sharpen them for guys,I recommend if asked. My guys are pretty much Spyderco guys, with a couple of us carrying a XM 18 as well. The dept as a whole not so much,I get handed a lot of well cheap knives ,with the question what do ya think.....

It's hard sometimes to hold back but I try. Some only want to buy cheap knives as they lose or break them, many have bought Spydies though along with a few other quilty brands.

I bought some of my crew Delicas at one point ,the guys who had quilty knives already got other gifts. One guy who, carried a pos knock off lost the Delica in short order.he bought another pos that he's had now for years........

For some it's just meant to be.
