Dyad Jr Salt?

#1

Post by bearfacedkiller »

Has there ever been any discussion about this? I believe it was a linerless frn model so it should be possible. What do you guys think? I would love to toss one in my tackle box.

I have screamed to the top of my lungs for either a full sized or mid sized Dyad in the H-1 Salt Series. I heard that Spyderco actually had a mid sized prototype of an H-1 Dyad at one time but the production costs were too high is what I was told.

Spyderco's Dyad models and especially the full sized C-44 model are great cutting tools>> The C-44 big Dyad has been one of my top 3 all time favorite Spyders for quite a while now. I carry my older ATS-55 model quite a bit.

But if Spyderco can bring out one in the H-1 Salt Series I'll be in line for one. I would probably even go for one of the smaller C-39 Junior models if it was done right.

Yeah. The C39 is the one I am talking about. I would buy a couple for sure in H1 and yellow frn.

It didn't come with a clip so that is one less problem to solve or one less thing to drive up the cost due to the fact that the salt knives come with a Ti clip usually.

If it were the size of the Dyad Jr., I'd buy one today. :-)

I'm all for a Dyad Salt but full sized. That model can be converted for left hand use.

I'm with you there "mikeh99">> because to me it doesn't do the Dyad model justice not to have a full sized version. When I carry my C-44 big Dyad with me I feel like I have 4 different folders in my pocket. Even the plain edged, clip point blade of the original was truly one of the most versatile designs I've ever worked with. And the sheepsfoot, full Spyderedged blade with a slight belly to it is so useful for so many rough cutting jobs. Either one of those blades by themselves are great knives. But when you combine those two blades into a double bladed, premium folder it makes for one of the very best folders ever IMO.

Now I'm not at all opposed to a mid sized or smaller Dyad because I always thought the the Micarta Dyad Junior C-39 was truly one of the most overlooked and underappreciated Spyders ever. The FRN version was nice but it just wasn't as ridgid as I would have wanted it to be.

Myself along with Brother "O Just O" and about 6 other Spyderville regulars I could name know just how great and versatile the big Dyad is. Because when you actually carry it and use it you soon discover you have a great piece of well designed cutlery at your fingertips. LONG LIVE THE DYAD!!!

H-1 Salt blade future?

#10

Post by JD Spydo »

I would love to see a large, mid-sized and Junior versions of the Dyad model all with yellow G-10 handles and H-1 blade steel. I would bet that professional fishermen and other sea-going occupations would love an H-1 Dyad model.

If they would market a big and/or small Dyad model in the H-1 Salt Series with the same blade style that the original models had they would truly have a great selling utility folder. With any of the Dyad models you truly have the best of both Spyder Worlds in PE & SE.

I also wish that they would introduce a fixed blade outdoor type blade in full Spyderedge in the H-1 Salt Series.

Deal me in 2 or 3. But I am guessing it still is a pricing concerning compared to the number of possible sales against what other new model would command.

Going to need enough H1 steel for the two blade, two springs, two pins, at least one liner. I not going to get my hopes up.

But it would be great, if going with the Dyad jr. design would be nice if a clip was added (aka mini Dyad) or lanyard hole. Design and molds changes cost money.

Two items of discussion>> #1 you mentioned the possibility of a lanyard hole or maybe even some external attachment that you could fasten a lanyard to. The Dyad would be a fisherman's dream if the guy using it wouldn't have to worry about it falliing overboard. Because I have talked to two different guys who have had C-44 Dyad models lost overboard on a boat. Losing a premium model like the Dyad is just way too heartbreaking any way you look at it.

Now I would also be for making a Salt Series Dyad with the Spyderedged blade being made of H-1 and having the plain edged blade made of either a premium steel or even a supersteel for that matter. There has just got to be a way to get a full sized or at least a mid sized Dyad in the Salt Series lineup. It's just too good of a model to overlook.
