The knife you are looking at is my Spyderco military. That knife has been around the world with me. Over the years i have owned about 4 military's but that one is truly mine. Every single adventure weather it was backpacking, camping, hunting, fishing Riding snowmobiles etc... It has been in my pocket. That knife was in my pocket on my first structure fire, my first Wildland fire, my first auto extrication, my first time working on the ambulance. As i have grown up into a man over the last few years it was the only knife in my pocket. There is just no telling how many things this knife has cut. From seat belts and fire hose to cooking dinner at 11,000 feet in Utah. Over the last few months my millie was starting to say mercy. It had blade play in all directions, A few of the screws where stripped, the G-10 was almost smooth to the finish. I am by no means complaining. It was by far the best $135 i have ever spent. In fact in late 2012 i purchased a sebenza think it truly was my grail knife. the millie was in my pocket again in less than 2 weeks. In late June i decided to part with my companion and send it to golden colorado for a look over. Yesterday i noticed a small white box sitting on the porch and i knew what it was before reading the address. I eagerly opened the box. A nice poster, a few catalogs, a letter and a red and black box where sitting inside. As i opened the box i realized right away that is not my military. It was a BRAND NEW military. It was perfect in every way. Nice new G10, beautiful blade, perfect edge, nice and centered, and early lockup. I could not have picked a better military if i had 100 sample's to look at. As soon as i was done admiring the knife it hit me. This is not my knife! this is a pretty new military. Not the battle hardened veteran that had been in my pocket for years. As much as i appreciated the gesture. I did not want a new military. I wanted my military. So against better judgement. I made a call to Spyderco. I explained the situation and the customer service was very helpful. They promised me a call back after a tech looked over my knife again. Today i received a call, the tech did everything. He replaced all parts that would receive wear, unfortunately my knife was still not up to Spyderco's standard. They explained to me that it was not up to safety standard and should no longer be used. The lady explained to me that i could keep the brand new shiny military and use it. And my old military could just be my own personal collectors item. My old military is on its way back to me now. I pulled the new one out of its box, put it on the wicked edge and brought it to hair whittling, lubed the pivot and put some sharpie on the tang. It's ready to go for years to come. Thank you so much Spyderco for being gracious enough to replace my knife without even being asked. And then going back and doing every thing you can to salvage my old knife. I really appreciate it And i could not be more proud to have a fresh new Spidie riding in my pocket.
