I really like the steel's low (Not really any at all, actually) maintenance requirements, but I find myself hard pressed to carry an H1 unless I am at the gym (which is often), so I can keep it on my person and not have to worry about the moisture rusting the knife up. And as odd as it sounds, I have been considering putting one in the shower to just leave it in there for emergencies, like if on the off chance I find myself in a Psycho type scenario. I think the main thing keeping me from EDCing an H1 Spydie is the lack of folding defensive blades in the steel. I wouldn't mind having an waved Endura in H1, but I doubt that will ever see the light of day. I use to carry a Tasman 24/7 for that purpose, but the handle left a lot to be desired for me at least. It was comfy in hand, but I had to white knuckle it just too hang on to it, especially when it was wet.

The Autonomy is being made in Colorado with H1. I don't see why it couldn't be a reality for other potential models.GoldenSpydie wrote:I don't want to burst any bubbles...but:
I think that Spyderco only uses USA-made steels in the Golden knives, so H1 in a PM2 or Manix seems unlikely.

I tend to agree with "v8r" on this one. Because it wouldn't be the first time that Spyderco made something in Golden with a Japanese made steel. The original Renegade & Blackhawk models both were made in Golden with GIN-1 steel. I know this for a fact because I used to own 2 of the originals of those models>> and they were stamped that they were made in Golden. Now the later Renegade & Blackhawk models were made in Japan. They did something similar with the original Meerkat as well.
Believe me if Spyderco wants a certain steel to make knives they can get it easily at this stage of the game.
But on the other hand it's highly possible that the model the Brother saw at a show was a prototype and they might make the prototype in Golden and have the rest of them made in Japan.
And there's nothing keeping them from making home grown items in Japan as well.

I thought there were import restrictions on Autos and Balisongs?
On a side note, what about a H1 Swick with some teeth? How cool would that be?

Oh you're right on>> there are federal and some state laws restricting automatic knives ( switchblades) especially. We here in Missouri have a "collector's provision" which states that you can collect and posess switchblades but you can't carry them in public unless you are military or a first responder i.e. a fireman, policeman/woman, paramedic and in some cases utility workers can also use them legally>>> now that's here in the state of Missouri. Trust me every state is different so check the laws in your state. There is a great organization I used to belong to called the AKTI (American Knife & Tool Institute) and on their website they have a list of all the Switchblade and basic knife laws in all 50 states. The AKTI are more or less the "NRA" of knives and tools. Frankly I've only owned 2 autos that I even cared anything about. You can deploy most Spyders with the thumbhole just about as fast as you can any switchblades IMO. I never really cared much for balisong (butterfly knives) at all. I had one made by Cold Steel of all people that I sort of liked but other than that I've never seen the appeal in them.v8r wrote:I thought there were import restrictions on Autos and Balisongs?

I would love a Spyderedged blade the size of the SWICK. My full Spyderedged Temperance 1 model is very precious to me. Because they just don't make many Spyderedged fixed blades that are any good. I've been trying my hardest to find a back up unit for my Spyderedged Temp 1 for some time now. They seem to have disappeared from the landscape. I've always like the SWICK because the first one I owned was made here in Golden, CO USA Earth. But a SWICK with H-1> Sure!! Bring it on!!

Hey v8r, there was a thread recently where Sal said he was open to doing an h1 swick and asked for thoughts on blade preference. We did a poll and I think hawkbill was at the top.v8r wrote:I thought there were import restrictions on Autos and Balisongs?

I would be all for an H-1 Swick if they would offer it up in Spyderedge and a yellow handle as well. I'm truly wanting to see more small fixed blades added to the line up.Surfingringo wrote:Hey v8r, there was a thread recently where Sal said he was open to doing an h1 swick and asked for thoughts on blade preference.
