ATR: should the pocket clip be revisited?
`
With some old favorites apparently in the pipeline with some changes and improvements (Strech, D'Allara), if there were to be another ATR, should the pocket clip be changed, or refined?
If so, how?

Depends. I recall that clip breakage issues were fairly common with the Lil Temp, which used a similar clip, but can't say I recall reading about them on the ATR. It does fit in with the overall "flavor" of the knife, so I'd go with keeping it. Of course, that's the opinion of someone who wouldn't buy one anyway, so take it for what it's worth.

Yeah that's a good question. I'm not really sure. It works with the aesthetics of the knife, but perhaps doesn't offer enough traction in the pocket when compared to the new clips. I really like the triangle style pocket clip that the military/starmate/tenacious uses. I see it here on the ATR as well. Maybe a hybrid?
I thought there was an ATR sprint or something in the works. Good time to be discussing this perhaps.

As much as I like the looks of it, it grips my pocket too firmly. If they would do more of a traditional style Spyderco pocket clip that was widened and kept the large diameter holes I think it would be lots better. Of course tooling cost may prohibit a redesign for a sprint run?

The Salsa also had a Ti model with an integral Comp Lock.timlara wrote:this, + 1000
To me the, ATR was always kind of a "Godzilla Jester" (except with a choil), which is very good thing.
Is it still the only Integral Compression Lock model ever produced?
As to the ATR's clip, well I'd have to hold one in my hands and EDC it for a bit to find out :p If anyone has one they're willing to donate to me... :D
There are five Spyders that I either sold, traded or gave away that I deeply regret doing. One of them was my set (PE & SE) Titanium ATR models. I did like the pocket clip on the ATR as well as the one that they used on the Gunting models. I thought those were 2 of the best clips they ever came out with.
Will be looking forward to the upcoming Sprint>> But I guess Titanium will be out of the question??

Thanks Sal!sal wrote:We'll probably make the upcoming sprint with the old clip.

I was a little surprised at the assortment of responses. I was expecting more like v8r's 'grips my pocket too firmly'. And I definitely agree that the original clip follows the lines and aesthetics of the knife.
Looking forward to the sprint.

I love the look of the clip on the ATR, but I agree, it grips the pocket like a bear trap. One change I could imagine is, rather than having almost the entire length of the clip contact the scale, maybe it could be altered so the contact point is only toward the end of the clip. So the contact surface area would be similar to the current wire clips?
Just an idea. I'd be more than happy with some sprints using the same clip.

I love the knife, but never carried because of clip and it is little heavy for me to carry clipless.

I would out a wire clip on everything if I could haha, but for this knife I would be happy if they just changed it to a classic hourglass clip. Not a fan of the clip it hastwinboysdad wrote:I am fully confident that a wire clip is always the right answer to these questions
