Can't win for losing

#1

Post by twinboysdad »

First beach trip in two years and I lose my dad gum Ladybug Hawkbill Salt as soon as we get into town. It lives on my keys but we brought the wife's van so it rode loose in my pocket. Will be replaced immediately as it is my always knife and the first time in pool or ocean water in 3 years I have been without it. SB E4 along as well, but she is not getting in the salt water. Also first Spydie lost. Oh well, maybe someone who found it will google their new knife and become a spyderfan!

That sucks, but at least you didn't lose an expensive or discontiuned model so it should be easy to replace. I lost my first Spyderco in a field while manning the tag line hoisting an antenna up a tower...the rope must have caught the clip and pulled it out of my pocket. It was an FRN Native, and I had a replacement in my pocket by the end of the week and I haven't lost one since.

Hey 3rdgen, hello from a fellow lineman!

Did you try the SB stretch on samson rigging line? Replacing my zdp endura by a SB stretch and can't wait to see if it does as good :P

Sorry to hear that it must be painful, but then again you might just have helped another fellow man become a knife freak and a Spyderco lover. If I had enough money I would gift a ladybug to every single person I know.

I'm not a lineman (Though I have climbed a few wood poles using stirrups to change light fittings)...I've only built and climbed communication towers, and a few power towers to work on cell cites mounted to the top of power towers which are a little rare. Not common enough for me to have conductive boots (Mine are insulated) so I've gotten a few good zaps by means of induction (Positioning strap is also non-conductive). Thus far the only rope I've cut with my SB Stretch is some 3/8" and 1/2" nylon rope to make some rope slings. I'm sure it would do well though because the blade geometry on the Stretch is superb, and is very easy to sharpen afterwards if the line is filled with dirt and dust. This is what I'm used to climbing/building. My grandfather was a lineman though before he started building communication towers.

That must be a nice view, I don't go that high some rig floors and manlifts that's it for me.

If I were up there, not only would I have lost my Native...but also:

2. My lunch
3. Control of my excretory system

...not necessarily in that order

Glad someone likes doing that job... ;)

Well in Qebec the term lineman (monteur de ligne) also apply to telecommunication tower builders. It is considered a different part of the trade, but the same term apply :P

And so far either he hasn't seen the PM or he was so distraught over his lost LBHB that he went to a LKS and bought a new one after posting this thread, he hasn't PMed me back
