I assume the Spyderench was discontinued because of low sales. Don't know for sure of course. IMO it's a shame because it is such a great tool. I've had several multi-tools and now only have the Spyderench and a SOG PowerLock. Having only one MT on me often leaves me short tooled because you do need a screwdriver and wrench at the same time and the Spyderench is the only tool that allows for that that I know of. The needle nose on the SOG is possibly used more than any other feature of any MT I carry. So to be completely prepared I would carry both. The adjustable wrench on the Spyderench is much more effective for holding a nut than any needle nose pliers, even the area near the pivot by the cutters. The Spyderench doesn't have wire cutters which is an often used feature. The knife on the Spyderench is the best one I've seen on a MT regarding harder tasks. Combine all the tools on both the Spyderench and the SOG PowerLock and you have 90% of all standard tools in any toolbox. I love the SOG Powerlock but it is not all that much different than a lot of other full size MTs. OTOH, the Spyderench is so much different than most MT's it is 10 times better for certain needs. I could go on and on about how useful the Spyderench is in the MT world but this is not the thread. If anyone sees one on ebay or Amazon or anywhere I recommend it. One last comparison that seems fair IMO. Dad was a 22 year Marine. He said one good marine can do the job of one marine. Two good marines could do the job of ten marines. You could say that the the two MT's each can do what each is capable of. But both together are capable of so much more than any single MT. I'll stop about the Spyderench before I get long winded. Or is it too late? :)rescueseven wrote:

Schempp Tuff...I also have a potential line on a new in box Spyderwrench I'll be looking at tomorrow if I can...it'll make a good companion to my Byrdwrench and maybe vie for pocket time with my Skeletool (It's smaller than the Byrdwrench I'm told and the Byrdwrench is just a little too big for me to carry in my jeans pocket).

Over weekends and in the evenings I'm enjoying the Manix LW quite a lot. It carries so effortlessly for a decent size blade.

When Sal made the quote in my sig- "We've been working on this design for 10 years, unsuccessfully." he was referring to the Rench. I'm sure there are as many reasons to take an item out of production as there are reasons to put one into production.jackknifeh wrote:I assume the Spyderench was discontinued because of...
If its a US model, get it! Mine is a first run Taiwan, and I'm glad to have it, but a US model would be :D3rdGenRigger wrote:...I also have a potential line on a new in box Spyderwrench
Try a back pocket. Mine is always a LRP, an option I learned from ChapmanPreferred while he was at SFO.3rdGenRigger wrote:...and the Byrdwrench is just a little too big for me to carry in my jeans pocket...
