+1 on what Xceptnl said. I think the lock on the millie is very high quality steel. I don't have anything against the tenacious, but I think its lock has to be thicker because the steel is not up to that of the millie.

Thank you. Believe it or not, after years of being used to G-10 & CF, this slippery little booger dropped tip first onto the tile last night while sharpening. It blunted the tip and actually bent the blade. I straightened the bend and sharpened out the flat spot. Still, be careful with these pretty knives.

xceptnl wrote:I would suggest using it. The Military has a track record that stands for along time. It may appear thin, but it is stronger than you think.

I studied my Military and it's liner lock for a while (waiting for CAD to render some models for me) and the best way I can describe it is that the liner lock of these models is more like bamboo than oak. The liner will flex with a substantial amount of pressure applied to the spine, but returns to normal when released. I also noted NO movement at the lock interface point during this flexing. We all know that no lock is 100% (unless it is a fixed blade and even they can break under abusive conditions) but that Spyderco has been engineering and refining this lock for 18+ years. If it was inferior to many of the others available from their lineup as well as other manufacturers, I am sure it would have been replaced. Congrats on your new knife. Cruwear is a terrific steel and you are lucky enough to have it in one of the most iconic Spyderco patterns. Cheers!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that, I know how careful we all are with these things. I Hope you managed to get it looking good again.

That is a week to remember. Quite a famous haul you have had. The grind on that Superblue seems different than I remember mine, but it could be the lighting.

It's probably the lighting. The blade looks much smoother in person than in that photo. Now I just need to decide if I want to force a patina or just let it happen. I love the look of all the well used SBs that I've been seeing lately, especially the Calys.

I say, let it develop. You can almost passively try to resist it, but with food comes patina. Blood brings out the best colors.

I also have a green Tenacious. Overall I still think the ParaMilitary 2 is a better knife for the money, but the Tenacious is cheap enough to be close in my books strictly thinking about value. It makes an awesome beater knife, or one I'd happily loan to someone for an afternoon or day because I wouldn't worry about it (I don't think I'd loan one of my PM2's unless it's to someone I trust not to pry with the tip etc.). I might buy another strictly to try my hand at acid washing the blade because for ~$45 I won't feel bad if it turns out crummy.

Hey guys,
My wife and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, and she surprised me with something I've wanted for a while now.

Apologies for the crummy pictures...real pictures with my real camera tomorrow. I always thought the Spyderwrench was smaller than the Byrdwrench...not the case. I'd prefer a plain edge, but it clearly hasn't been used and it's going to be a user. Proper pictures either tomorrow or day after.
