interesting Spydie sighting
So I am lunch today on a sales call. Me, my National Account Manager, and our customer who was large enough to merit the joint call. We decide on a catfish place for lunch and are all seated. This older retired looking guy wanders in with suspenders on and I catch a wire clip in his back pocket. Like all of you, I notice stuff like that and not because I am tactical but because I love knives. So I completely focus on this knife and lose all interest in the sales call, and see orange. Recognize the clip, the model, and the orange...identity revealed, Orange Assist. So now I am really perplexed, how this 70-ish gent with suspenders and Case collector written all over him has an orange Assist. As luck, or bad luck, would have it he sits where I am looking right at his right back pocket! My concentration is doomed at this point. Had I not had company, I would have said, "nice Spyderco" but it was not to be.
In my neck of the woods, I have yet to see a Spyderco clip on anyone but me.

I probably would have had to comment regardless of the company I was in. Good job with the self restraint.

I am not so sure, haven't we seen video of you? Don't recall you being that old :pgbelleh wrote:So, I was out to lunch today at this really good catfish place, and this weird city slicker kept staring at my butt the whole time! I don't know what his problem was. But anyway, got to try out my new orange Assist today, and so far I'm loving it!

I would have excused myself from the business meeting and straight up asked. Then come back to the table and discussed a bit about my Spydercos. Nothing crazy, just remark about being a collector. Who knows, the client may be also? Even if not, it brings something interesting to the mix and draws the client closer to you personally. In sales, conversations sell and relationships matter.

I've only seen one or two Spydercos on strangers and was in a situation that wasn't conducive to starting a conversation about it. A couple of my dads friends have Spydercos (My dad's friend was the inspiration for me to buy my first Spyderco over a decade ago after I held his and I've never looked back). My dad always had Gerbers and Kershaws, but I've gifted him a ZDP Delica and a SB Delica and I've noticed that his Kershaws all lay forgotten now (He's lost the Gerbers I remember and has only had Kershaws in the last few years before I bought him the Delicas). Most of my coworkers roll with Spydercos though after seeing how well they carry and function. I may get my dad a SE Dragonfly Salt for smaller more finicky jobs (Like trimming some plastic water pipes to mate properly to their respective fittings before crimping them...we've had to re-plumb our ENTIRE house because grey Poly-B sucks and we've had 3 pipe bursts in the last year and the finger choil, serrations, and size of the Dragonfly was definitely better suited to some tasks we ran into).

Great sense of humour there! One of the noblest things a person can do IMO is to provide a laugh to others when it doesn`t come at anyone`s expense (except perhaps willingly at your own expense),gbelleh wrote:So, I was out to lunch today at this really good catfish place, and this weird city slicker kept staring at my butt the whole time! i have only seen 2 people that Im not related to, carrying Spydies. Someone that attends my Grandparents church, he carries a old Endura4 SE. and i only caught a glimpse of a wire clip of a guy in the Walmart grocery store. It was too quick a glimpse and i could not see what it was
