I regret not getting the entire Hossom line when I could have (as well as a Rock Salt) from some dealers who were closing them out. I remember the Forester listing for less than $175 and the little Dayhiker for under $75. If I had to take a knife that I currently own, the Forager would have to be my companion.bh49 wrote:I think that Rock Salt would be even better. I hate myself that I didn't buy it, when it was discontinued and was sold for just a hair over $100.
I am seriously reevoluating my accumulation and probably after selling few more pieces I will award myself with Schempp Rock, just in case if I will ever get lost in a wild :) :D

I'd like the whole factory with me...

I love micarta on Hossoms. This was the only reason, why I bought one. I like it so much that I even bought Retribution later (one for me and one for my son. I hope it is big enough, so my son will not loose it.)xceptnl wrote:I regret not getting the entire Hossom line when I could have (as well as a Rock Salt) from some dealers who were closing them out. Don't you think that this will be a little too heavy for you to carry, if you stranded in a wild? :Dchuck_roxas45 wrote:I'd like the whole factory with me...

Of the ones I own (folders only), I would choose the PM2, as it has held up to some serious use/abuse even. I have batoned quite a bit with it, and it works great for feather sticks and other general cutting chores. And S30V is actually one of my favorite steels in use by Spyderco.
If it can be one that I don't own, then the SouthFork.

In a city, where I want to keep the blade out of sight, a Para2.
In the Desert, where there is little that needs to be cut, the Para2 again.
On an island, a fixed blade Salt in H1. Definitely NOT serrated.
In the Northwoods, something thick because it will likely be batoned through hardwood to build a shelter and fire. Right now, probably a Serrata, but it's hard to say because I haven't even held one, much less put it through its' paces.
My answers now, after doing a Primitive Skills class and actually living off of my knife, are way different than they would have been beforehand.

Hard to say, but between my Temp 2 and my Rock Salt, I'm going Rock Salt.
