Where Did You First Learn of Spyderco?
Where Did You First Learn of Spyderco?
OK maybe this topic's been thrashed, but if so, it hasn't been recent.
Where or how did you first hear about Spyderco knives?
I know for myself, it was about 3 years ago in Dick Marcinko's (Former commander of SEAL Team 6) "Rogue Warrior" series, specifically "Designation Gold:"
"He dropped all his gear except for the AK, and held his hand out. 'I'll need a knife.'
Wonder pulled a large Spyderco folder from the inside of his waistband. 'Try this.'
'Believe me, I will,' Koby said."
That sent me scurrying to the 'net to find out what the **** a Spyderco was... and the rest is history.

Actually, it was the Internet. I had it recently installed on my computer and I was just surfing here and there till I found some cool sites with various gear (knives included). I was aware of those peculiar looking knives with a round hole in the blade, they appear in the movies quite oftenly, but didn't know of the brand name.

About 10 years ago I was looking for a decient folder. Not being on the internet at the time I had to rely on magazine articles, and over here magazine articles featuring knives are very rare.
It came down to either a Benchmade or a Spyderco. At the time I thought the Spyderco range looked a little too weird, so I went with the Benchmade.
Fast forward a few years. I finally got to try a Spyderco, and it was then I realised that what looked weired, actually improved the performance tremendously. Been using them ever since

Years ago a friend and office collegue showed me I think an Executive model. Also the Department Head had one. Never thought too much more about it till I had filled my gun safe and California gun purchase laws became such a pain, had to find something else to collect.

A few years ago my father was retiring to become a full-time RV'er. I thought he needed a nice folder for a "camp knife". A friend of mine at work carried his Military every day, so I asked him what to buy. The next day he brought in about 20 Spyders for me to look at, the rest is history. My first order was 2 for my Dad, 2 for myself!

About 22yrs ago ; my cousin ( a cop with the West Haven PD ) told me ( a young switchblade afficiendo ) that "these are
much better than switchblades.." I learned
with time he was right ; springs & other
whistles, bells & sirens do not a reliable
knife make! At the time he told me the C01
Worker had just arrived on the scene ; it would take until 1992 when I would aquire
my 1st ( SE Dragonfly ) ....
And then all **** broke loose!

I first got bit a couple of years ago when I bought my first at the local Academy Sports and Outdoors. I had seen the Delica and Endura there for a good while, but didn't see/know what made these knives special enough for the price tag. To me, they were just plastic handled knives with a hole in the blade.....
I'm glad that I saw the light after buying my first Spydie(Delica SE). I don't plan on looking back.....
As they say, "Those who know, carry Spyderco".
