Some neat details on the Native 5 LWT. The pin for the lock bar appears to be pushed in and not held with screws. I'd guess it is a larger diameter where it goes through the lockbar, using the scales for retention rather than just a pin held by friction in the scales.
Also, the handle screws come from the left side and don't go all the way through. I'd guess they used the same idea as the clip screw "stanchions" on this knife and eliminate the thru-posts present in the Delica 4/Endura 4 series. The clip screw inserts remind me of the inserts on the Calypso Jr. LWT of many years ago. They've always worked very well for me and it's good to see it get another chance.
The handle edges look a bit more square than the current lighweight Native; it'll be interesting to see how it feels.
It's a very nice knife overall and I look forward to seeing the street prices on this. I also hope it'll become a test bed for new US steels at an affordable price. Love the tip-down option in a lightweight Native. I want to see what this thing weighs (or doesn't weigh). Thanks Sal, Eric and company!

There was another thread about this knife and I believe Sal said the weight was around 2.5 oz.JLS wrote: It's a very nice knife overall and I look forward to seeing the street prices on this. EDIT:
sal wrote:It's certainly taken longer than intended, but that is often the case. We'd prefer not to pull the trigger until we know it's as right as a new model can be. We had a time making the mold. The model is a co-polymer injection molded handle. The lock is the Native5 lock. 2.46 oz. 4 way clip. The model we're testing is S35VN.

I will definitely be getting a Native5 LW. I have found my forum native to feel like an extension of my hand. I would love to see it as a platform for affordable super steels.

If XHP is boring for you, what you can say about S30v and VG10?Holland wrote:xhps kinda boring, how bout we replace xhp with M4 :D
But OK, let's agree on B75P

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I love the XHP steel so much on my Techno that I actually look forward to seeing it on other knives. I'm not a D2 guy so it caught me offguard having such good results using it. Would love to see XHP replace S30V as a main offering.
M4 is awesome though, just saying..mucho love for XHP at this point.
That Native looks nice...I really prefer the subtle swedge vs. the exaggerated one shown in earlier generations. I think it should suit many people better as an EDC than does a Delica because of the blade size/ergos.

I hope so, but I doubt it will be many, Its definetly not my cup of tea :)DeathBySnooSnoo wrote:I'm sure that there are some that will love the Draper.

I remember Eric explaining that this is due to the complexity of making this composite blade happen. There was still a decent amount of edge revealed on both sides of the blade. I gues it's part of the learning curve of this composite steel. I'm curious what the other blades will look like in the future.Donut wrote:The S90V core on that Para looks pretty off center. *shrug*

Spyderco 2014 Production Sample – Lum Tanto Sprint
In 2012 we saw the Lum fixed blade Tanto sprint with a burgundy handle that came out last year, IIRC. Apparently, there were some problems with that handle material. Therefore, this year there will be a sprint of the fixed Lum Tanto with a beautiful black and green G-10 handle. It’s a more tactical version of this nice tanto design, versus last year’s ‘collector’s edition’ .

Spyderco 2014 Production Prototype – Mike Read PITS
PITS stands for Pie In The Sky, apparently, and it is the working title of this very impressive new addition to the slipit line.
The ergos were really nice and I’d love to see how this folder holds up under daily carry and use. The spring bar on top of the handle helps to keep the blade either open or closed. The opening action was very smooth on this prototype. It seemed to me that this knife might be able to withstand more hard use than the slipits we’ve seen so far from Spyderco. The Mike Read PITS is also in my top three favorite prototypes from this year’s meet.
The approximate specifications of the Mike Read PITS folder are:
Overall Length: 18,3 cm / 7.20 inches
Edge Length: 7cm / 2.75 inches
Blade Length: 7,5 cm / 2.95 inches
Blade Thickness: 0,3 cm / 0.19 inches

Spyderco 2014 Production Prototype – Roadie
After TSA announced that it was going to allow a folding knife on airlines again, albeit under very strict specifications, the spydercrew took to the drawing board. The result was the Roadie slipit. Although TSA’s proposal has been cancelled by now, Spyderco is still pursuing this prototype.
The knife features two round divots on the blade to open the knife. The Roadie is a small and slim slipit, but it seemed quite controllable and useful as a little folder to take care of most EDC chores you’d encounter during (air)travel.
The approximate specifications of the Roadie are:
Overall Length: 13 cm / 5.19 inches
Edge Length: 4,3 cm / 1.70 inches
Blade Length: 5,5 cm / 2.17 inches
Blade Thickness: 0,2 cm / 0.08 inches
