for now it is easy to spot. Wrong steel and no Boye dent, but this is easy to correct. They have even fake inexpensive knives like tenacious and dragonfly

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Revival wrote:I also have two Sage 1's and two Sage 2's. RanCoWeAla summed it up perfectly. The Caly 3.5 is not as smooth as my Sages though. If the 3.5 had the whole lockback system + washers like the Native 5 it would be absolute perfection.

What does that mean? I thought the Caly 3.5 used the back-lock design.

What I ment to say was the new pivot bushing system that the Native 5 uses. I wish the 3.5 did not have the boye dent like the Native 5 as well. Both the 3.5 and Native 5 use the lockback system but IMO they are worlds apart. Sorry for the confusion.

How so? Is the Native 5 smoother/easier opening? Unfortunately, I've never had my hands on one.

The Native 5 feels more clean and crisp as far as the opening and closing. Both are smooth while opening but you can really notice the difference while pressing down the lock and attempting to close each knife. I still think the Caly 3.5 is an amazing knife and everyone should own one. If you are guys are on the fence, I highly recommend it.

I know Bh49 owns both as well and maybe he could chime in and better describe what I was trying to say.

I agree with what Revival said. Everyone who likes Spyderco Knives should have a Caly 3.5
I have a question about the Caly 3.5 with CF/ZDP 189 Laminate Steel . Does part of the blade tarnish and part of stay pretty and shiney after use and maybe peeling some apples etc. with it?

An extra .5 inch? Sure why not...

I have the Caly 3 in front of me as we speak (3 inch). I have owned this knife since 2007 I believe. It was my first pocket knife
and have been my EDC since the second I picked her up. I know its not a 3.5 but I am just letting others know my
experience. I have bought and sold many many pocket knives but never was able to let this one go. On that note no
other knife has been carried nearly as much. I use it to open beer bottles, cut cardboard, and in plenty of water. I USE
this knife, its not a pocket queen. I learned how to sharpen on this blade, and have done plenty of things with her that
I would advise not to do with a folding pocket knife. However, that being said, I have never cleaned or oiled this knife, besides
the typical water rinse if it gets grimy from oils and dirt, yet she opens SMOOTH and effortlessly like the day I bought her. The
tolerances on this knife are definitely what Sal says they are. Also there is zero blade play. Although the handle is worn from
opening bottles, it gives it character. And although I screwed up the blade trying to learn how to sharpen her up, She still shaves
the back of my hand with ease (VG-10 steel, G-10 handle). Oh, and the deep pocket wire clip is AMAZING. I have never had a person
come up to me and say "are you carrying a knife?" like I have had with my Benchmade or Kershaw blades.

In other words, I will continue to EDC this blade until I lose it! (7 years so far .. est)

Thanks!

Awesome. A knife that's actually being used to do stuff. Can't ask for more than that.

I've always used the spine (with an open knife). Never had an issue ever (doesn't scratch the blade).

My first run Caly 3 lives in my carpenter work trousers. Don't have any recent photos, but apart from scratches on the blade and smoother G10 it is like new.

Couple shots of my Caly 3.5 from the front seat of a Super Cobra. I carried this almost every day in my flight suit... now I switch it in and out with a super blue version or a delica.

Over the years my Caly's were all crazy smooth. More than my Native5's.

Green Caly would be glorious! One question for current offerings: Which would you prefer... a 3.5 in black G-10 (VG-10) or a 3 in Carbon Fiber (ZDP-189)? 3.5 CF too pricey for me. CF much better looking blade? CF at all tactile? Thanks.
