Yojumbo
FWIW I have a job where shiny things are a no-go, but I like the Yo2, so I hit it with ferric chloride. It doesn't make it black, but it's much darker and gets rid of the shine. And since it's not a coating, it doesn't affect the cutting performance.
If looks matter to you, if you dip it, you'll get an even coloring. I just applied it to this particular knife with a qtip; that combined with it being old (bought it when they were released) and carried a lot has made it look worse than you might like, but it's still not shiny :) . Also you could reapply if necessary.

I haven't used that knife much, so I can't provide an accurate assessment of its scratch resistance. However, I've seen Robar-coated guns, bolt carrier assemblies, pens, and other items that have been used and abused and the coating holds up extremely well.Evil D wrote:Mike how does that coating stand up to scratches, and is it something we can pay to have done?
Robbie did the coating as a favor to me and MBC. I know Robar does custom coatings all the time, but I don't know their policies as far as minimum orders or small-scale projects. You'd need to contact them directly to ask.
Stay safe,
Mike

It is seemingly impossible to find any Yojimbos from a reputable dealer. Ebay has a few, but I don't trust sellers there. Also, we need a karahawk trainer

Cold bluing is one solution - this is good explanation of the process and some product ideas - http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=1105 ... e-Finishes
I've cold blued several working knives with great results plus it is fun.

Re: Yojumbo
Feels good to look back on this and see it happening now.
Re: Yojumbo
I'm in for one. Did you come up with the term yojumbo?
Re: Yojumbo
Are the scales on the Yojumbo going to be the same material and texture as the Siren?
