Sorry to nag, it's in my DNA! ;)

I recall you mentioning there might be a knife with bronze scales in the works. Is that still in the crowded pipeline?

Copper, brass, bronze, or some kind of Spydie alloy. I'm pumped at the possibility! Hope others are too :)

I remember hearing about a Serge dog-tag prototype last year? Might be a good candidate http://sergeknives.com/page34.html

I would rather see gents knife with brass liners than solid brass scales. My Moki Glory has them. Looks beautiful.

Blake,

Are any knife with brass scales out there? Do you have any pictures or links? Are you talking about plain brass or some kind of fluting?

That sounds very promising! I hope it's not going to include any overly intricate patterning, as bronze is so soft. I like the worn in look it'll develop with patina and scratches, but am a bit hesitant whether a pattern like in the Chapparal 3 would age nicely.

I do know that Chaparral is supposed to be a template for handle materials and use CTS XHP throughout the line, but wouldn't it be tempting to run the Bronze Chaparral with CPM M4? :) This way we'd get to follow both the blade and the handle developing character. Those that are very worried about carbon steels rusting, might be equally worried about bronze tarnishing; by combining both, you might entice more customers!

bh49,

I've seen some older knives with brass scales but can't think of a modern model with full bronze or brass. Love that Moki!

Mallus,

Possibly. Interesting theory.

I've been thinking of casting copper scales for one of my spydies to learn the process. Takes far less heat than steel, so I could basically melt it down in a small campfire. I dig the looks of copper, bronze and brass and while they are clearly not good modern blade materials, scales or liners with any of the above would be cool.

Not really. I recall some old-timely Buck type knives with brass bolsters. I've yet to see a modern folder with a full scale or even bolster though. Lately I've been addicted to copper and brass flashlights so figured it was worth asking about :) . A small obsessive niche for sure.

I imagine the Chaparral doesn't go along with "plain" scales. I wonder if we'll have a fancy texture.

I personally like the real stuff. Anything dense that will patina and smell kinda like a bag of pennies.

Copper is a bit rustic for most people (patinas really fast) but it's terrific stuff for the anti-microbial properties alone. Bronze and brass alloys have similar properties while not quite as fast-acting. Really though, that's just justification :) . *technically* you could cut glass with a lady's diamond ring... :p

I like titanium, especially for load-bearing applications. It's certainly cool for knives but more for a practical uses (IMHO) than aesthetics.
