Compared to each other and that's really the only way to compare them I can't see any disadvantages of any of them in use.
Toughness would depend on RC hardness and the HT and tempering process.

Got my name on the list this morning in case there are any others out there who mistakenly ordered more than they wanted or other cancellations (maybe even a few extra that float in late). I initially tried to hold off and even watched them go online, but after seeing the pictures of what looks like a significantly thinner grind behind the edge than my K390 I realized i did in fact "need" one of these S110V Mules. I hope they come through with a few extras so I can get a hold of one. I know it is my own fault watching these sell out...so I will just have to wait and see if it is meant to be. If I score one I will probably try my hand at making scales, as the halpern pricing went up some. Mostly just an excuse to make myself try something new.

I will give them credit though, S90V/S110V/ZDP/etc. can't be easy to deal with and they do it all the time.
As for the price well IMO a K294/10V/S125V/15V Mule would have no problem selling even if the price was bumped up due to material/production cost.

Spyderco doesn't turn much of a profit from mule teams. I see them as a very generous favor to the knife community giving us a chance to try exotic steels we may never be able to. It's definitely not keeping the company from going out of business and a lot of time goes into them i'm sure. Figuring out the heat treat of some of the steels must be a challenge. Too hard and it's brittle and really hard to sharpen. Too soft and it won't hold an edge like it should. I'm sure they experiment a lot to find the middle ground of user friendly while keeping it at an optimal hardness for performance sake. They definitely push the bar for a knife company when some custom makers don't even want to work with these steels. They had to recall the ZDP and cruwear mules because of heat treat issues. They also offered free shipping and full refunds to all that purchased the cruwear mule. I'm just happy to be getting an S110V fixed blade. I can't wait to put it to use.

I received my pair tonight after I got home (UPS residential deliveries have been running late in the day here it seems).
Unfortunately my Halpern scales were brought by the house today by USPS when I wasn't home to sign for them (the USPS online tracking says a notice was left, but it wasn't at *my* house, wonder where they left it :) ). I'll have to run by the Post Office in the morning to see if it is there.
Of course I still have boxes of material I plan to use to make some scales, but haven't had time to get around to making them yet.
